Grumble - Cancel my previous post about power save property.  Still problems with limited (not working) wifi.

Hi Ben,

I had the exact same problem when I updated the driver for my Realtek card to the new one available on Lenovo.  My problem went away after I uninstalled the card in device manager and let Windows find and reinstall it.  Let me know if that works for you.

Celestina - Thanks for the suggestion, but "Limited" wifi issue persists for me.  Uninstalled from device manager, let windows find it.  Driver reverted to 1021.2.903.2012 (9/4/2012), signed by Microsoft publisher.

Ben-

That's interesting.  Upon reinstall, mine found the recent 1021.9.517.2013 (5/17/2013) driver.  I'm assuming that you've already tried reinstalling the driver from Lenovo's site?

I think the issue is more hardware than software. If you are downloading something, and your not touching the palm rest, then the wifi works fine. If you put your hand on the left of the trackpad, then the speed drops to almost zero.

It also seems like it is a problem with windows 8, as I got a usb wifi card, and the connection is crap as well. Lets see what happens under linux...

I'm having WIFI problems as well.

First of all, the WIFI connection is significantly weaker than of my iphone 3gs

Secondly, if the connection is once lost, I have to reenter the key (while I have activated automatic connect).

It's a hidden connection, which does not send out the WLAN name, but who cares, any (other) device can handle automatic reconnect.

Tethering with the iphone does not work (yet), connects via bluetooth and shows the iphone as offline in the exact next moment.

Does not find the Canon wifi printer mg 5350

It's such a nice device otherwise. I'd really like to keep it. But these are big problems for me.

Are these Windows RT problems (yoga 11) or ideapad problems?

Thanks for your kind help in advance.

Markus

It seems like it is a hardware/driver issue with the wireless card.

Well my Yoga 11S came in yesterday and it also has weak wifi. I could be sitting just outside the room where router is and I'll get 2 bars. No drops or suspend issues though.

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

I just purchased a Yoga 13 and love the device except that the wireless performance is noticeably poor compared every other laptop in the house. Trying to use it for Remote Desktop is almost impossible because it constantly drops the connection.

I installed a wireless signal meter and did some testing and found the following very disturbing behavior: when you place the device on your lap and put your hands on the keyboard the wireless signal drops dramatically. This would seem to imply a fatal design flaw in these devices as they must have put the wireless antenna in the base around the keyboard.

As this is a strange form-factor with the ability to flip to a tablet it presents some challenges on the best location for the antenna but, the design choice that was made has created a device which is pretty much unusable as a normal laptop – because you can’t put it on your lap or use the keyboard! It might make a nice toy as a tablet but my advice is to avoid it if you thought you could use the keyboard.
