PX12-450R Drives

2020-06-05, 19:06 PM

Now support has ended, I just wanted to see what drives people were using in their PX12-450r devices? I'm only using for home/personal use and have tried a few drives such as the WD RED (efax) 10TB that seem to be working well as standalone drives. I'm not worried about RAID as I keep a duplicate of my media files on other disks as well.

While these devices keep running it seems a shame not to use them for non-critical home NAS solutions like media servers , more so with this model as you can run a VM or two (in my case EMBY).

Also I have the R07 firmware and Marvell firmware update packages, if anyone needs links to that let me know here. Happy to share as I had a nightmare getting those off Lenovo support originally.

I also use LenovoEMC px12-450r, still in a production environment and I'm also thinking about adding disks to the machine (I have only the 4X4TB original disks ...).

Can you please send the exact 10TB model of disks you tried ? my machine is with the latest software version that was published (4.1.414.34909, R06). I saw the the largest official  disk is a 6TB but it will be nice to try a 10TB disks ..

Also, how many disks installed and did you try building a RAID ?

Thanks,

Noam

See the screenshot for the model number. I believe you need the updated  R07 firmware as I mentioned per Lenovo support for PX12 and the SCSI controller which I can give you a link to download if needed.

I got this from Lenovo Support directly. You have to update the firmware for the PX12 as well as the Marvell controller BIOS, both files with instructions are included.

"Requires device BIOS update to R07 and upgrade for the Marvell controller BIOS to version 3.1.1.2098."

I have use this to support the larger (4TB+) WD drives.

Not sure I understand your question, it is already available and has been for a long time, but as far as I know only by request from Lenovo support. I have it and shared it from OneDrive using the link in my prior post. The file has both the R07 PX12 BIOS update and the Marvell controller BIOS update with instructions on how to install it...
