Size difference in actual size in pc and nas

2016-09-20, 15:07 PM

Hello
I have lenovo IX2-DL nas storage configured with Raid 1 ( Mirroring) with two hdds

HDD 1:- WD1003FBYZ-010FB0-01.01.A01
HDD 2:- WD10PURX-64E5EY0-01.01.A01

I am facing issue of data size in nas.

If I copied data of 50gb (size shown in pc) in nas it takes 4-5 times more space. This 50Gb data takes almost 200 Gb of space in Nas.

Tried with latest firmware but same issue.

Kindly guide,thanks in advance

Hello alphapune,

What you are describing is usually caused by method of transfer and metadata, does the issue persist with a simple copy and paste transfer?

I must also mention that neither of the drives you have listed are on the approved drives list ( https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/30797 ).

I recommend switching your drives so that your NAS is running a supported configuration.

alphapune,

Alright, it's important to note here that the NAS doesn't really have any input on what it stores, it just stores what it's told to.

If the issue is persisting with a simple copy and paste, I suggest checking the forums for whatever operating system you are running to see if other users have encountered something similar.

Hello alphapune,

There are some changes that can be made to the way Samba handles files to prevent this with new files that are copied to the NAS. If this is something you would like to try please contact your local technical support team and ask about installing the Custom Config SDK application and how to properly configure it for this issue.
