Question

Has anyone figured out what to do, to got speakers from Y550 work properly in Linux? I've spent some time trying to do ALSA work good, but still I've got only 2.0 speakers working.. Can't persuade subwoofer to do his job.

Answer

There might be multiple solutions depending on the Linux kernel you are running on your system

Solution 1

1) http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-and-U-series-Laptops/Ubuntu-Linux-Support/td-p/16842/page/2

Add

options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo-nb0763

at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Or Solution 2

2) Installing Kernel version 2.6.34 and above should fix the issue

Or solution 3

3) Install ALSA version 1.2.23
