E485 Can't boot Kernel 5.00rc1 or 4.20

Hi All

Currently using ubuntu 18.10 with kernel 4.19.13 in order to get this kernel to boot i had to modify grub with the following parameters

ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0 and spec_store_bypass_disable=prctl.

When i update ubuntu to kernel  5.00rc1 or 4.20, neither of tem boot even with the above parameters.

Any ideas on how i can go about getting this fixed or trouble shooting steps i can take?

I'm new to linux and im not sure how to go about fixing this.

Thanks

Re: E485 Can't boot Kernel 5.00rc1 or 4.20

Hi,

I have the exact same OS and kernel combination.

I have found, after trying everything posted out there on getting Linux running on this machine, that you additionally need the parameter iommu=pt

You might find posts suggesting iommu=soft but pt seems to give better amdgpu driver setup in my experience.

Once you're up and running you may also find that occasionally your machine won't resume from suspend. There is one post on this forum suggesting that bios 1.32 fixes that problem (but the latest bios is 1.48) but I haven't tried 1.32.

My own debug efforts (setting up suspend/resume debugging in the kernel) suggest the resume issue is related to the GPU (device 04:00.0) but I haven't discovered any deeper info, not am I a kernel expert.

I also find that so far kernel 5.0rc1 does not fix the resume issue.

Just using iommu=soft works, i dont need the other parameters.

Thats on bios 1.48
