Installing Linux on Miix 320

2017-10-19, 13:26 PM

Hi.

Using Ubuntu 17.10 I can get the Live version running OK with the exception of the camera and Mic. Has anyone managed this, or is there another disteo that works?

I managed to get Linux running with one of these ISOs: http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com/

But the result is kind of disappointing. Battery level isn't displayed, the internal mini SD card isn't recognized, and I cannot get the efifb to rotate my screen during bootup (Grub is displayed correctly, but the console is in Portrait mode). Of course camera are not working as well.

Would be great if this improves... (Perhaps with a little help of Lenovo)

I was able to install Ubuntu 18.04 on my Miix 320. I made a blog post regarding the same here : https://esc.sh/blog/linux-on-lenovo-miix-320/

Hope this will be useful to someone

Thank you for this nice document.

I am having problems getting Ubuntu to boot the Live USB.

I have another post on that. Do you have any info on that?

I want to boot usb before I install it.

Is there other Linux that work? I would prefer CentOS have not had much luck with that. But Ubuntu will do.

I also had  a lot of issues getting Ubuntu to boot. I have mentioned that in the blog post itself.

You have to edit the grub in the live boot and add some parameters like

set gfxpayload=keep
nomodeset i915.modeset=1 fbcon=rotate:1

It's detailed in the post, if you would like to know more :)

I was not successful following your document last night. I do have another post as not to take over this one.

Any help you can offer is appreciated.

Thank you.

@Paper Tape: Thank you for your blog, although I could not use it 1:1 to get Peppermint 9 running, it made me aware of some of the difficulties and the xinput command really helped a lot. I put a short summary of how I got Peppermint 9 running in a forum on www.peppermintos.com.

Currently I'm struggling to get the tap-to-click on the trackpad to work. Do you have any hints on that? I was fooling around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-synaptics.conf, but I'm not sure if I'm on the right track.
