Lenovo G50 30 - Ubuntu - Wireless

2016-01-06, 5:26 AM

Hello,

It's a new G50-30-80G001VNIN laptop. I installed Ubuntu 14.04.  It did not show any WiFi options at all.

So installed Ubuntu 10.04.  Did all the upgrades. But I still don't see the WiFi options.

rfkill list     doesn't show anything

nm-tool    shows the eth0 wired device but doesn't list any  Wireless device.

Tried the Flight Mode key  but no luck yet.

How do I enable WiFi ?   Much appreciate your help. Thanks

Does anyone from Lenovo look at these queries ?  Is this considered an official place to render support ?

If yes, then I am sorry to say this Lenovo,  your support is deplorable.

Hi,

I had the same issue, and a bug has been reported in the ubuntu forrums.  And they are still working on it. The driver is still not available for the Qualcomm Atheros Wireless lan hardware provided in some Lenovo laptops yet.

After I searched many forrums in the web. I have found a work around.

It is to buy a WiFi Adaptor and plug in.

I bought a USB wifi adaptor Edimax for $10 from Amazon. And it perfectly works fine.

It is just plug and play.  The wifi automatically works.

One good man create special fix for problem adapter models. New driver can be supplied from ppa:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install rtlwifi-new-dkms
