Re: Linux status of Fibocom L850-Gl

On their own website it states OS Driver:  Win10/Android*/Linux/Chrome OS

Fibocom Website

It's Lenovo's responsibility as laptop manufacturer to guarantee that all selected components (screen, graphics, ssd, etc) work correctly under the "supported" operating systems.  IBM Thinkpad (now Lenovo) series were famous for supporting Linux on their devices.

If Lenovo knows that the Fibocom device has no linus drivers, they should state so an offer an alternative which does!  I did a bunch of homework BEFORE I made my expensive purchase for the Carbon Gen 6 laptop - and I checked the website of Fibocom in advance before I made my decision.  I can understand when the finderprint sensor doesn't work - but this is serious because I need LTE access also under Linux!

Re: Linux status of Fibocom L850-Gl

If you can find a driver for Linux for the Fibocom hardware - GREAT!

Just be sure to research the creator of the driver, ping them for support or help if needed,

L850-GL does have a Linux driver, people use L850-GL on drone with Linux too. The problem here is Lenovo blocks USB access at UEFI.

Fibocom also states the Linux user should use USB3.0 interface on the spec sheet. I don't understand why Lenovo employee cannot see this?

Well clearly they don't value Linux users as their customers anymore. Lesson learned: should have researched out the details instead of counting the thinkpad still having good linux support. #MyLastThinkPad

Re: Linux status of Fibocom L850-Gl

Yet, in the document http://www.fibocom.com/Private/ProductFiles/77bb8fb9ddca4fbbafcc2b2157c1ad40.pdf

it is stated:

Win 10 / Android* / Linux*/Chorme OS

and below

Note*: Planning

So, rfox's post is not precise enough.

Re: Linux status of Fibocom L850-Gl

If you noticed in my post - the website has Win10/Android*/Linux/Chrome OS - so the star is only on Android . . .

Re: Linux status of Fibocom L850-Gl

Can you please point where this comes from exactly?

If you read the document http://www.fibocom.com/Private/Files/510493e1fa35c40fcd78.pdf, you will notice the * is in Linux too.

Re: Linux status of Fibocom L850-Gl

I saw it now, it's in the web-page. There is a disagreement between the web-page and the PDF document.

L850 has two versions: L850 with both PCIe and USB3, L860 with PCIe only, no USB3. L860 is used by HP only. All Lenovo use L850.

L850 has been there for quite long -- almost 1 year before Lenovo using it. Initially ModemMananger has no Fibocom L850 interface but now it is there That's why you see a * because interface was not there at time L850 was first released. (The reason is L850 does not use standard AT command).

To enable Linux support is simple: Lenovo turn on USB3 interface on wam port.
