Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

As we speak about relatively new laptops, which probably are still under guarantee, I propose all affected people open service requests (link). Writing on this forum is apparently pointless, as, I have an impression, we are totally ignored by Lenovo.

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

ok, I can do that, but what to tell them? I have ubuntu 18 and my computer freezes? here is the syslog for the error? I also wrote to Nvidia, because in my case the is also a GPU issue.

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

Maybe shortly something like:

There is a bug in the UEFI firmware regarding TDP throttling.
Details can be found under the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/870u0a/t480s_linux_throttling_bug/
and on your forum https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/X1C6-T480s-low-cTDP-and-trip-temperature-in-Linux/td-p/4028489/

I have just created my new service request (4075DJC), although I have been already once ignored.

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

I just got a call from Lenovo Customer Service and they say "we don't support any Linux distributions so you are using Linux at your own risk". This is the super professional answer that you get for buying a 2000+ euro laptop from Lenovo!!!

I think you should simply insist it's a hardware not OS problem.

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

or, because I am in the first 14 days and I can return it back, just test Ubuntu 16.04 on it and if it does the same I will return it and get a apple Smiley Happy

I don't have the knowlledge to explain to them what to do and so on ... they just read Linux and then stoped on this. I can also stop buying Lenovo products and that is it, for me at least.

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

guys I have a small update for you.

I think i got the last 4-5 hours my laptop running without any issue. I my case it was freezing also and displaying in the syslog the throttle errors so after the nice and professional response from Lenovo I said to my self that this weekend I will put a lot of stress on my laptop so I can determine where is the error coming from. somehow I landed here -> https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-installation-guide-linux/index.html#introduction and did exactly what the hole article says. until now I have no issues. The freeze is gone so is the throttle error. Maybe you can also try it for you and this will also work. The general description is I removed the nvidia drivers that I had installed with out the Ubuntu GUI active and then install this CUDA thing.

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

To stress the CPU i used stress -c 12 -t 1200 and the GPU with glmark2. While I was playing some youtube videos and the stress and the gpu was running i monitored the syslog and nothing regarding the throttle.
