In File Transfer connected to WIN10 PC can only view adopted SD card, not internal storage

2017-09-19, 7:25 AM

I just installed a correct class 16GB micro SD card on my E2 which has Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and selected Adoptable internal device etc per https://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solution/MS109134.

When connected to my WIN10 PC in File Transfer mode, the only folder under the Moto E2 device is the SD card. I cannot view the internal storage folders. I though they might be showing as composite but an examination of the folder contents and storage space shows that is not the case.

PC screen snip attached. Can you assist with this please?

When you adopt the sd card, this is what you get. One of the reasons i don't like adopted storage.

You get limited management options. I prefer external/portable  card option as i can manage internal and external space directly.

With adopted storage, you can use the built in options (settings-storage) to move some things between internal and sd card, but that is all.

Thank you AlphaDog. I tried this because I discovered I now had Marshmallow.

Under previous versions I could not find a tool that would allow me to move apps and/or their data to the SD card. Can you recommend such a tool that will allow me to do that under Marshmallow? (No posts except this one to query on this Board).

You have to make a choice - adopted storage is mainly for expanding internal storage so you can move apps. Formatting as external/portable and you can't move apps.

I don't know of any tools that let you move apps to sd card with portable storage.
