Re: After update Android 7 on my Moto E4, contacts are not downloaded via bluetooth to car

We can confirm this too in our case.

Firstly though, this issue was not present when the device was first used/new. It was running Android 7 out the box but the issue has crept in after subsequent system updates.

Here is what's happening:-

i) When the device is initially paired or subsequently connected to the head unit, the address book/contacts are not automatically transferred even though this has been set in the phone.

ii) It becomes necessary to initiate the sync/transfer from the car head unit. When this happens, the whole process takes in excess of four minutes. The connection is lost and recovered several times during the process.

iii) When the sync/transfer is complete the head unit shows every contact entry TWICE i.e. they are duplicated.

iv) When the phone and car reconnect e.g. at car start-up, any new or changed contacts are not reflected in the list contained by the car head unit. In other words, a sync must be initiated again - see point (ii).

The phone has been reset to factory and re-tested.
The phone has been rebooted several times.
The problem is 100% repeatable and persistent.

Phone: XT1762 dual SIM (Android 7.1.1/Nougat)

Car head unit: CD450 in Vauxhall Mokka

We know the head unit is okay because we have tested it with many other devices. These are:-

HTC Desire C (Android 4/ICS)

Alcatel POP C1 (Android 4/JB)

ASUS Zenfone 4 (Android 5/Lollipop)

Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) XT1068 (Android 6/Marshmallow)

Wileyfox Swift Gen 1 (Android 7/Nougat)

Motorola One (Android 9/Pie)

Not one of these fails and all sync perfectly and quickly.

It's a royal pain. Please can we get some response - thank you.

We tested again but using a Kenwood KDC-BT73DAB.

Contacts are successfully transferred but the following is notable: Those which only have an organizational name are transferred but show in the head unit as "NO NAME".

In the vCard standard this field is:

ORG:<name>

Any contact which has only this field are not transferred to Vauxhall's CD450. This might also explain why other Vauxhall/General Motors head units fail too - they would be of the same stock.

Contacts which have data in the following fields are synchronised:-

N:<name>

FN:<name>

Can someone from Motorola please investigate this and advise?

Here's a response from Vauxhall/GM UK regarding use with the CD450 head unit:-

"...regrettably, the current phone you are using is not compatible with the infotainment system in your vehicle."

This issue is isolated to the Moto E4 - as already stated other Moto phones do not exhibit the problem.

Likely the CD450 shares core technology used across the GM range. This goes to explains the wide reporting of the problem; especially with GM vehicles in Australia.

Are Motorola going to do anything about this?
