Re: Moto E4 Plus not connecting to Wifi

You can add Brazil to the list. My wife has a Moto E4 and it also has Wi-Fi connectivity problems.

Re: Moto E4 wifi connection problems

2018-07-29, 13:00 PM

I've noticed that after the recent update, my wifi is very unstable on the E4. Patch level is dated May 1, 2018.
Typically, when I notice the FREQUENT problem, going into the wifi settings, the only sites listed 90% of the time are 802.11G APs, the 802.11n APs seldom show up and connecting to them is difficult (it attempts to connect and obtain IP address but usually fails). There are several devices, esp8266s, esp32s, laptops and tablets in our network. We have 3 APs, 802.11n at either end of the house and an 802.11g mid-house to connect to another router in an outter building.
If I turn wifi off then back on, APs show up, some saved, most not saved. Eventually it tries to connect, gets to 'obtaining ip address' then reverts back to 'saved', no connection is made. Needless to say, this is draining the crap out of the battery too.
Fix this.

Thanks for the insight, hopefully lenovo can now understand the issue is with their wifi/bluetooth implementation.
I've enabled bluetooth coexistence on my router and it has had little effect but turning bluetooth off on the phone helps the phone connect to wifi.

Re: Moto E4 wifi connection problems

This problem just started happening to me after the latest Motorola security "fix". My phone NEVER had a problem staying connected to ANY WiFi.I bought a new router becuase I thought that was the problem. The problem follows to the 5G, 2G and Guest networks of this brand new router. And I have an Apple iPad Mini and iPhone that stay connected just fine.

Safe mode only gave temporary relief but the problem continued there also. Of course rebooting the phone and router fixes things temporarily. But the problem is in the Motorola/Lenovo SW/FW.

I DID see something pop up recently after the latest SW download, it was some sort of WiFi Manager. It was popping up when I came in contact with new WiFi networks. This is probably the cu;prit. Does anyone know where it exists on the phone and can it be disabled?

Re: Moto E4 wifi connection problems

I have a Wifi problem (connect to a WiFi router but not to the Internet) on a Moto E4 purchased in September last year from a reputable retailer in the UK (John Lewis) who provide a 2 year guarantee. I have contacted their technical support and they advised that the phone needs to be repaired by the manufacturer. So, I am arranging to do this but I will have to source a temporary phone in the meantime. This is unsatisfactory and makes me wish I had not waited to see if a software upgrade would fix the problem and had demanded a refund when I first noticed the problem! I will update this forum as to how the repair goes, how long it takes and if it fixes the problem. It is very disappointing that Lenovo/Motorola have not taken steps to address this fundamental issue. I doubt I would recommend them to anyone or buy another of their products.

Just my opinion of course, but I doubt your phone will be repaired. It's obvious to me it's a software issue. MY phone has worked on Wifi solidly for 6 months, and all of a sudden it's dropping WiFi connections. I'm convinced it's the last update I took just a week ago or so. There's a new wifi manager in there somewhere that is messing with WiFi connections.

Yes, unfortunately that's the reality. Unless Motorola takes the responsibility for that issue and commits to fix it, we should probably throw our phones in the "toy gadgets" drawer and buy another one.
