Re: NEED Android O 8.0 Oreo update for moto e4 plus with all bugs cleared

The G4 launched over 2.5 years ago, and at the rate the operating system is updated, and the recently launched hardware keeps improving, I'm not sure you'd be happy with a system that's trying to run something it was never designed to run.  I'm not sure it's a good idea to keep upgrading any model over that period of time because sooner or later, the hardware is going to be too antiquated to run the current version.

I'm currently running 8.0 on my Z Force, and to be honest, I don't see any improvement that's life-changing or faster, or better.  It's just different.  And as far as "all bugs cleared," that will never happen...even the moon rockets have bugs in their software.  It's simply not possible to find every mistake in thousands of lines of code.  If a bug prevents important functions from running, then a patch is required, but if the phone runs well otherwise, there may be no reason to expend the effort.

There's a pretty good chance that there are app conflicts on your phone and I'm sure that either the customer service reps on this site, or perhaps another forum member, would be willing to work with you to help you make your phone run better.

For example, an easy test:  have you run the phone in safe mode?  In safe mode, 3rd party apps cannot launch, only the stock apps on the phone will work.  So, you can make and receive calls and texts, read/write/send emails, launch Chrome and surf the web, download from the Play store...and I urge you to do that at least for a few hours.  If the phone's performance is substantially better, we can take it from there.

But installing an operating system that was not designed for your device is most probably not a good idea.

We already know as a moderator it's your job to discourage modifying these devices, however you are incorrect in many aspects of hardware and what it is and is not capable of ok. I still own a Google Nexus 4 aka mako.... This device was introduced in late 2012....it runs OREO.. I own 2 Moto e4, one factory, one with nougat 7.1.2 with NO ISSUES mind you.... No, this device is more than capable of handling Oreo because only minor changes were made to the OS

What you see above me are THE ONLY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THESE TWO DEVICES, THEY ARE HIGHLIGHTED IN BLUE, SO PLEASE ELABORATE?

It also depends if the device is a top shelf or budget device, sales, the hardware companies willingness to create a Dev team to work with Android in making it possible because as you probably know you cannot just throw any version of OREO into any phone contrary to many beliefs..... Each version of Oreo is unique to each device, but one thing rarely changes drastically and that is hardware... There are many reasons why most phones don't see updates and it's not hardware

Re: NEED Android O 8.0 Oreo update for moto e4 plus with all bugs cleared

I concur. My Moto E4P runs as well as any Android phone in its class.  The battery, a heavily marketed and unique feature, works exceptionally well:  a long life between short charges.  The security updates now coming regularly answer my need for assured security (although I also use Kaspersky for malware protection that I'm not sure even 8.0 would provide).  And I've 120+ third-party apps running without difficulty, providing flexibility. (Blue Mail is spectacular, Pocketcasts great, and open-source Drupe a fine dialing/contact app.)  It would be proper to have the LED provide some utility 'cause the LED's installation was factored into the price of the phone.  Also, badges that indicate waiting mail, messages, and notifications would be useful, but I find the notification function adequate at the moment.  I'm wondering what comes next for this line, whether it survives and is improved, or whether Lenovo wants to shuttle us off to a more expensive phone with (perhaps) these features.  I'm dubious enough to wait it out.  I wouldn't want to go through this Android versioning issue again -- and my long memory of it is now shared by enough millions of other users that, one hopes, Lenovo doesn't want to go through it again, either.  It's so much easier just to provide the features and recoup the cost in future sales to happy customers.

Re: NEED Android O 8.0 Oreo update for moto e4 plus with all bugs cleared

I forgot: for the next version of the Moto in this series: PROVIDE MORE INTERNAL MEMORY, PLEASE!

I have a very large SD card, yet none of the system processes can be transferred to it.  Hence, I have over 100GB on my card going unused, while my internal memory is using 9.3 of 10 GB, which makes my phone run more slowly than its design permits.

Lenovo, next time around:  provide more internal memory or make some of the system functions transferable to the SD card.  This for me is non-negotiable.

I think that is one of the main differences between E and G and the reason for different price points. The E series was designed as entry level for users with few apps. If you need more you should look to G series.

NEVER EVER call me a liar in favor of singing Moto's song.  When I say something, I mean it.  I don't try to make people swallow Moto's  side of a story if I don't believe in it.  Contrary to what you think my job is, it's actually to keep the forum users aligned with the forum rules and to help where I can.  That, you have to do: be courteous to everyone in here.  As far as modding your device goes, I don't care what you do with it, except you can't discuss modding in here.

And there are some substantial differences between the two devices that you didn't mention:  the e4 runs a Mediatek chipset, the e5, a Qualcomm; the e4 GPU is a Mali T-720 and the e5 GPU is a an Adreno 308...see for yourself at gsmarena.com.  The e4 is a highly capable phone, but not a highly upgradable one.  A decimal point upgrade (7.0 to 7.1, for example, is not the same as going from 7.0 to 8.0.

And one more thing:  It's expensive to upgrade a phone, maybe not for us as consumers, but certainly for the manufacturers in terms of programming, licensing, testing, and more.  That only becomes the consumer's problem when it comes to paying for the device in the first place or when, as in your case, you are unhappy with the current state of affairs.

Oh.  I forgot:  You can't compare any device to Google's own devices, like a Nexus or Pixel.  Those devices are uniue in the world of mobile devices due to the face that Google owns both the harware and the software.

Thanks for the reply. I'm happy with my hundred-plus apps on the Moto E4P, which for me performs as well as my wife's iPhone 6.

I will definitely keep Motorola in mind when shopping for my next phone. I prefer reliable basic services to all sorts of bells and whistles, a philosophy that I believe the company and I share.

Re: NEED Android O 8.0 Oreo update for moto e4 plus with all bugs cleared

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD PRODUCT FROM THE FIRST I BOUGHT IT. ANDROID 7.1.1 IS RUBBISH. MANY APPS FREEZING, CANT RUN & CONFISCATED MOST OF USER'S CHOICES…!!!!!!!!!!

No additional ringtones, No vibration on connection features, shutdown many features tab decreased, battery less than expected, no system upgrade .. etc ..!!!!!

It`s only 16GB internal memory comparing to its large capacity of 3G ram!

No moving system & apps between internal & external (SD card) memory feature!

No delete contacts feature!

Wallpapers keeps stopping & malfunctioning!

malfunctioning of vibration system. etc ..!!!!!

I have never been so disappointed like this. This is absolute waste of money!

Well put but touche, the example I set is to show you that my Nexus from 2012 is supporting Oreo.... Quite well frankly. And as far as your chipset. It depends on where you are in the world, there are different varients of the same devices some use Qualcomm and some use mediatek it all depends. I understand fully what you are saying and you basically gave your game away by stating the costs of developing all around and Motorola chose to do this rather than update the e4 in other words said because this phone is a budget device, it does have the hardware to handle Oreo but it wasn't a hit so......

.... I stated facts and anyone can check them with all due respect I state and show facts the chipset means nothing. I'm in the business ok it's what I do.. And further more just the fact of you not knowing the differences between 7.1, 7.1.2 and 8.0 you shouldn't even be in this conversation
