Re: Apps getting killed

Well I did the update and cleared the cache partition. Everything feels pretty snappy, and I was able to play music in Shuttle, browse my facebook feed in Chrome and look up directions in Maps, without anything dying. Of course it'll take a couple of weeks to see if this is actually going to last, so I'll post back next week with an update.

Hello all,

I did the upgrade to 5.0.2 a month ago and altough multitasking did improve, as of 3 days ago I've had to reboot the phone 6 times, twice a day literally. The Memory leak issue really hurts performance and stability. Any one knows when to spect 5.1 upgrade?

So after using Lollipop for about a week, things are definitely improved, but still not quite where they should be.

I've had to reboot the phone a few times and clear the cache partition once as well. That said, I'm now able to reliable run music in the background and use the likes of facebook messenger without apps getting killed off, and reloads when multitasking aren't as frequent.

There is still some occasional sluggishness, some redrawing of the launcher, but at least things are better than they were. That and lollipop in general (particularly the notifications) make the phone more pleasant to use.

Weirdly though, search no longer works in Spotify or Shuttle - Shuttle returns no results and Spotify just says 'there was an error'. Tried reinstalling both apps to no avail. Here's hoping 5.1 comes along sooner rather than later and irons out these remaining issues. Still pissed with the lack of communication from Moto though and it has still made me think I wont' purchase another Moto phone again.

Since Motorola is not taking this issue seriously I suggest you go to google's developers website and vote on the issue in order for Google to take responsibility and fix it.
This issue brings shame to android and is alienating those who supported the platform from the beginning.

Hi,

My moto G 2 was having same issue even while in Kit Kat. With L update, phone has become worse. Almost all the apps get hanged and auto close. Is there anyway to go back to kit kat where the phone only used to hang but not force close appssadbroken heart

See my update at https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=98332. Definitive and excellent improvement for Moto G in 5.1 (CM 12.1).

@devsk, thanks for your link. Would you say it is worth upgrading my stock Moto G2 to 5.0.2, or should I better wait for 5.1? Thanks

I would say go for the 5.1. The 5.0.2 release is not good. It has tons of issues. If you don't want to wait for stock 5.1 from Motorola, there is cyanogenmod 12.1 for Moto G2 (2014), just officially released yesterday. I am running that right now and its very good so far.

My moto G is the XT1064. I am running android 5.0.2 and the app killing
isn't very aggressive but its there. Will this Cyanogen 12.1 work on my
version? And should I do it, or wait for 5.1?
