Re: Booming bell sound- can't shut it off

For the past several days the Moto G has been making an incredibly annoying sound, it sounds like the loud bell of an elevator which blams out at any hour of the day or night.  I never set it myself.

I've searched through all the notification sounds on the phone and I can't find this sound  anywhere, and even when I set all Notifications to OFF and the new "Interruptions" feature to all interruptions OFF, I still can't stop this accursed elevator bell from chiming off at random times day or night.

I've taken to burying the phone under the sofa cushions the basement before going to bed each night.   Aside from a sledgehammer, does anybody know what this thing is and how to exterminate it?   Thanks much.

Have you tried putting the phone in safe mode to see if the sound continues?

How do I do this, and what will that tell me if it doesn't play in safe mode?

I don't have your phone, but I think it works this way:  press the Power button as if you were going to turn the phone off.  When you see Power Off on your screen, press and hold the screen and you should get a prompt to reboot into safe mode.

If the phone stops chiming in safe mode, there's a third party app causing the problem.

Firstly, it doesn't make any sense. What appears on the screen when that
noise sounds? Perhaps you set an alarm O something. If you've already check
this, try a Factory Data Reset.

Let's not rush to wiping out the phone yet.  Let's see if we can figure out what's going on.

There are apps that allow for audio notifications without visual - I remember doing it one time. Couldn't figure out what the chime was for the longest time - no clue on phone. When i did figure it out, it was something stupid i had turned on. Can't remember now though.

Re: Booming bell sound- can't shut it off

There is no message, no display.

The sound is exactly like an elevator ding before the door opens, at full volume.    The effect on me at this point is like nails on a chalkboard.    DONGGG!

It just happened now.   As far as I know, no incoming messages (checked that) or calls.

WTH is causing this?    I can't even find that sound file anywhere, if I could I'd just rename it to something empty.

Reboot into safe mode and see if the sound goes away.

Re: Booming bell sound- can't shut it off

Its hard because I can't make it happen, it could be hours or days or minutes or any time it likes.

I just rebooted now and it happened again right after startup.    It did not happen right after I booted in Safe Mode, but that doesn't tell much.

Its hard to keep the phone in Safe Mode all day, as I'm trying to do other things.   I could leave it overnight.... however its not a real solution in any case, I can't use it all the time :/
