Use of microSD card in Moto G3

2016-09-02, 13:19 PM

Hi,

I have just installed a 16 GB microSD card in my Moto G3.

I wish to use it to store all photos/videos/documents and also as many apps as possible.

How do I know if an app is in the microSD or rather in the internal memory? My previous Samsung mobile let me know where any single app was installed and let me move it to the card (for those apps that were allowed to be moved).

How do I move applications from internal memory to microSD?

I have followed the 'move data' procedure right after installing the card, but I guess that all or most the apps are still in the internal memory.

Built in apps can't be moved. If an app is moved, or can be moved, it is listed under the app details - the place where you can size, version and  force stop or disable an app. There will be note on where it is installed, and button to move it to internal  or internal SD - i forget the exact terminology.

But if you are mostly looking for storing images, doc, videos then I would not use the card as adopted internal. I would use it as external/portable, and go into camera settings and use SD card as the destination.

Thanks.

I have found out the procedure to move moveable apps.

What I can't find still is the way to tell the camera to store images and videos in the card. There doesn't seem to be any such option among the camera options. I will have to check better.

If you set the card up as internal, and migrated your data, then that is where pictures go. The camera app just sees one big block of internal storage and has no control.

It's also worth reading over this page of SD storage Help from the forums page.

Why your Samsung worked differently may be because your Samsung isn't using Android v6 Marshmallow OS as how SD card storage is used was changed by Google / Android in v6 OS update & that Samsung also customizes the OS & adds more of their own custom apps than does Motoroloa. Moto G3 is more stock Android / Google OS.  Some people like Samsung / Apple for the company customization & control & some people like stock Android for the reduced bloatware & greater user control.
