Changing phone number in Status page

2014-01-20, 15:29 PM

In the Settings/About Phone/Status it shows the mobile number from the SIM card that came with the phone, not the number that I transferred over. I take it that there is no way to edit info in that section?

Thanks in advance

Mike.

It has always shown as "unknown" in the slot reserved for "My Phone number" on my Moto G. I have only ever had one SIM in the phone. I had wondered why the number was never displayed as it says it should be in the manual but it has never worried me why it doesn't display.

Have you rebooted once you installed the new SIM?

Thanks for your reply eaccents.

Yes have rebooted; but I have seen elsewhere that some sims do not update that section. Just wondered if there was a manual way of doing it?

I poked around a bit online, and it appears that some SIM cards do not store the phone number on the card.  This may be why the new SIM isn't causing any change in that data field.

Thanks folks; I guess that's the answer. Of course I can live with it; just curious.

I rebooted (turn off and back on) my phone and that changed my number in settings to the new number I ported over.  Hope this helps.

Re: Changing phone number in Status page

I have the same problem but rebooting doesn't seem to help. My number ported successfully from T-Mobile(part of EE) to my new MVNO, Tesco (network O2 UK) but the temporary number in the SIM was still there when I display status.

I was unhappy with "some SIM cards do not store the phone number on the card" since it contradicts the idea of the SIM as I understand it. So I removed the SIM, powered on and displayed status - no number was shown. Replaced the SIM, powered on and displayed status - temporary number still there. So it is in the SIM (screen shots showing this available on request)

My suspicion is that the Tesco/O2 number port process maps the temporary number to my own number. I'm not happy with this. It may "bite back" - perhaps when I'm roaming or if my phone is stolen.

I am seeing this also in my new Moto G 4g/LTE from Cricket - activated the sim on buying the phone which ported my number but status shows no number and rebooting doesn't change anything.  I can live with it but it is a tiny annoyance
