Contact name not showing up on incoming calls.

2014-02-11, 15:11 PM

I just set up my new Moto G, 4.4.2., my google accounts, etc but when people on my contact list call me, there is not names, just they numbers. I have tried every option without avail. I googled, I got no answer. I made a quick search here and nothing so far.  Help!

Do you have their phone number stored in their gmail contacts, or just their e-mail addresses? If  you didn't enter the phone number in the contact, the system wouldn't know to associate the call with the contact...

What do you see when you go into your Contacts list on the phone? Do you see the names?

Please do not PM me - if you have issues, search the forums for threads on your topic and post there, or start a new thread. Thanks!

Everyone of my contacts have phone numbers, non of them have emails. When I go to the contacts I see their names and numbers. My contacts are stored and synked in a google account.

Is the Google account that has your contacts the one that is selected in People>>>menu>>>contacts to display?  Working off the menus in a Moto X, so sorry if the menu names are not the same....

Yes eaccents, it's selected as it should. I can see my contacts, I can choose the contacts and make calls, etc. Even choosing the contact to make a call, the call log shows nameless numbers instead of the name of the called person. I'm starting to think it is a bug.

Sounds like it.

Try going into apps>>>find dialer, and clear the cache.

If that doesn't work, goto the same menu and clear the data for the dialer.  FYI:  it will erase the dialer history.

Re: Contact name not showing up on incoming calls.

I found this in the forum:

https://forums.motorola.com/posts/b7361ac82c

It's not the same problem but is kind of similar. I made a test and it look like that the phone appears to be looking for an exact number match, so even though the phone is 'smart', it's not smart enough to know that 1-888-555-1212 is the same as 888-555-1212. Last night I had to change ALL my contacts phone to add a 1....

I haven't tried cleaning the dialer data/cache yet... I'll do it later for testing and report.

Any more ideas?

PS.

Thank you eaccents for the help. I'll report later if the cleaning worked.

I remember that discussion!  I'd try that first as there may be nothing wrong with the dialer if the different format is the reason the names do not show up.
