Convert video for MMS

2013-10-18, 17:13 PM

I am trying to send a video shot on my Moto X via MMS. No matter what length the video is, it says "Message size limit reached. You can't add this video to your message."  If I capture a new video through the messaging app, it will record at a lower resolution and send without an issue.

My older Motorola Photon would take the higher resolution video, and automatically convert it to a lower resolution and then send it out MMS; all within the stock messaging app. I can not find a way to make the Moto X do this.

Has anyone found a way to do this, or is there a 3rd party app that will? Not that I want to install a separate app if I don't have to.

Have you already tried Handcent or Chomp?

For sending videos I like using Whats App. It is a messaging app that doesn't use the carrier network. Both parties (sender and receiver) have to have the app installed to work. It will allow you to send videos up to 12 MB, I think.

I is free to use for the first year. It really could replace the texting apps, though. Give it a try for videos and see what you think. No more worries about resolution! HTH

My service is through Republic Wireless who told me it is a Motorola issue.  I confirmed this with Republic Wireless (help request) today.  The only way to send a video via MMS is to go to  the Messages app>New message>attach icon (paper clip)>select Capture Video.  You will then take your video which will automatically be attached to the text message.  I told the rep that by the time you go through all the hoops to get the video the opportunity will have passed!  The Republic Wireless rep said that he tried to send it the "normal" way we have tried and it was the same for him.

Can't believe that after all the advancement in technology that Motorola has made it this tedious to send a simple video.

I use GoSMS which is able to convert photos for MMS sending.

I just checked and this app will let you attach videos files (vs. recording them on-the-fly), but it wasn't able to convert even a very short Moto X HD video down to the constraints to fit an MMS message, and I think it's the constraints of MMS that are probably more of a problem than anything. The file sizes have be really really small compared to the recording and photographic capabilities of the Moto X.

You might try converting the video via 3rd party application then try sending it. I'm not sure what's available for Android in that regard, but I've used FreeMake Video converter on my laptop to do lots of conversions I've needed for situations like this. It's a free download available here: http://www.freemake.com/downloads/

I always convert video with an online app called Acethinker Video Converter, free and works fairly well. It is a cloud based software to convert videos without install any software in your device.

When I am trying to use freemake to convert MP4 files it converts the video but not the audio, any idea what is going on? I used to convert video with a free web-based application called Acethinker Video Converter, never had that problem.
