No, I don't think so.

I am not a Motorola/Lenovo Employee. I am just a volunteer who happens to be a Moderator. All comments are my own and are not necessarily Motorola/Lenovo's position.

Will there be an update?

I know that all Windows Phone 8 - based LTE devices received an update to 8.1 Update 1 which includes support for VoLTE.

So it seems to me that all that is missing is a modification of the software of the device, which I think would be appropriate considering that is is a flagship device.

WAS a flagship device.  It already has a successor, so unless the 2013 Moto X gets Android 5.1, it will not support VoLTE.  The 2014 Moto X will get 5.1, and will support it.

Moto X 2013 has LTE and adaptive multi-rate wideband support. Don't see why it won't be able to handle VoLTE, might be something that I'm not aware of.

The 2013 Droids (Ultra/Maxx/Mini) support VoLTE on Verizon, but the Verizon XT1060 Moto X never received the update.

Lots of android smartphones have hardware support without software support from Google's side for a long time. Let's take BT 4.0 LE, which was officially added only to android 5.0 and higher. If manufacturer didn't take care of drivers and software, there was no use of having newest technology at the time. So that leaves me to believe, that all X models will receive HD Voice, as long as I understand what it needs to run VoLTE.

BT 4.0LE had official Android support in 4.3.  The Moto X's 4.2.2 build supported it as it combined features of 4.3.

Native VoLTE is ONLY in Android 5.1.  Since there are currently no plans to bring the 2013 X up to 5.1, we may never see VoLTE unless your carrier has added it themselves (like Verizon with the Droids).

Let's see what happens. I'd find it ridiculous if Motorola was stopping updates for the Moto X 2013 now, as even the Moto G 2013, which is a budget phone, still gets 5.1 as how it looks like (builds appearing).

Generally it seems to me that making updates available seems to be a lot easier on the Windows Phone platform. Even Motorola who promised to offer fast updates is quite slow in publishing the updates to 5.0 on some devices.

I have similar question.

Is Moto planning to support VoLTE feature for Moto X (XT1052)?
If not, why ?
