so... memory leak not fixed in 5.1 apparently..?

2015-03-16, 20:54 PM

According to the link below, the memory leak bug plaguing Lollipop has not been fixed in 5.1.  Is it a possibility that Motorola could have their own fix worked in for the next update or is this in the hands of Google? I've really been noticing this bug killing the overall Lollipop experience a lot lately.

According to Google, the memory leak was fixed internally, and there is no time frame for them to realise it.
I truly doubt that Motorola would fix this, because it has to do with core android, but we can hope that it gets fixed.

This will be an issue that Google will have to fix. I don't think that Motorola fixes anything in the core Android OS. I could be wrong, though. Hope this helps.

Well, supposedly, Google released updated terms, that Google is only in charge of releasing updates for nexus, and Google play edition devices, and that OEM, are in charge of updating and fixing bugs on their devices separately, if Motorola finds a way to fix this memory leak on their own, and release a fix, I'd be a really happy person.

I never reboot.  I notice it most if i'm multitasking.  Listening to music while moving back and forth between chrome with a few tabs open, and maybe writing some things down on google docs.  I'll hit home, and i'll see the launcher refresh, or i'll open the app drawer and the first page will not draw for 2-3 seconds.

I'm doing a little test right now.

I factory reset my phone.  I installed nothing but the Google apps, and a couple of my core apps (amazon, ebay, touchdown email, netflix, reddit, and root explorer.

So far, everything has been nice and smooth.  I'm going to monitor this and see if it stays this way for a few days.

Update: I had my first symptom of the memory leak. It happened after I opened the camera took a picture, then hit the home button. The launcher/ homesceen had to redraw.

So it appears that the problem exists even with no apps installed, and very light usage.

I have flashed 4.4 on my phone again for the time being.
