This bug is horrible. Unbelievable that it took this long for the 5.1 update and this is what we get. I am sure they won't roll out a fix for it either. Why bother fixing an old phone when they can just force users to buy a new device. Guess what? It won't be a Motorola.

For me, the battery drain took two weeks to settle down to reasonable. After that I found that after using certain apps, even after "closing" them, the drain got worse.

This is what fixed it for me

  • Turn off back up & restore

  • Do an FDR but don't sign in or anything else yet

  • Restart 3-4 times

  • Now sign in

  • Add your apps back from Playstore bit by bit, see how they behave; avoid any not updated in the last 10 months

  • The point is, it seems many apps are STILL not optimised for ART - sometimes the Devs are not even supporting them anymore but they are still on the Play Store. My older apps were mostly the battery drainers, & a few essential ones got updated after a while & now play nice.

I hope that helps

EDIT: Oh, & the overall, background drain in L is a Google screw up that apparently is fixed in M. I am not some Moto fanboy - I will rail at them with the best, but will not fault them with that, OR taking time to role out 5.1 instead of 5.0 or those other half-baked pre versions others did. And talk to Verizon if you really want to moan about the enormous extra delay for you; it was in their labs for ever, it seems, & Moto only controls the release of updates for provider-free phones.

So you are saying that after doing all that, you use mobile data, come back to a place you have wifi access, connect to wifi and after some time the cell standby battery usage isn't above 50%? I am finding that hard to believe because I did all of what you are describing, but the bug is still there.

And I am saying that it IS a bug, because if I do the restart process I described in my earlier post, then cell standby battery usage doesn't climb higher than 3%. Which is a huge difference.

I don't worry about what that graph shows - it seems wildly inaccurate; I go by my actual battery left at the end of the Day.

One thing I do notice with this update is I must not leave WiFi on when I leave the House - otherwise, when I get back & it reconnects then there definitely is more battery drain. But if I forget, simply turning off WiFi, toggling Airplane mode on then off, & then switching WiFi back on solves the issue. This was not a problem in KK, & is annoying, but it is a quick & easy  learning curve wink

So WiFi on when Home, plus some out & about will give me 68% battery left at the end of the day, versus 73% staying on Data all Day - reasonable, as having WiFi on in itself must drain some extra. My biggest annoyance is how L does not cope with fast swapping of cell towers, as when driving on a Motorway or on a high speed train. KK was rock solid with that, L is terrible

But, like I said, it strikes me that some of the problems people are having are also down to the apps they have, & if they have been truly optimised for ART. Maybe I am wrong but I can only go by my experience as I put it above.

Ok, I haven't tried the airplane mode thing. Maybe it works too. But your percentages are a little weird. First they are way too good! Second data consume more battery than wifi. At least for me that's the case. Of course wifi consumes battery, but when you are using cellular data, the consumption should be greater. Anyway, I am not saying you are wrong, just that my observations are different than yours. By the way do you use 4G or 3G only?

Those figures are with the phone only being used for a couple of sms's in & out, three or four calls, & it checking 3 email accounts every 15 minutes - I do the Bulk of my Daily Work on the Internet by email, so when in the Home Office the phone does not have so much to do smiley

Regarding the WiFi, I can't say why that is - I seem to remember on some thread way back a Moderator saying that WiFi on should lead to more battery drain than just Data on, & that is definitely the case for me.

I am on a 3G plan. I tried toggling to 3G on the phone one a business trip, but it made no difference, so I leave the phone on the "4G (recommended)" setting

Has anyone here tried the GServiceFix app from the Play Store?  It seems to work for me.  It's a bit finicky to use (it will prompt you through it but your phone has to be fully charged and attached to a charger to run it), and sometimes requires multiple tries.

Here it's my experience from the last charge.

Has someone any advice in order to fix this issue?

I already tried clearing cache partition and hard reset but nothing seems to have worked.

Thank you

@Raffonicoli: I am getting a decent backup of about 18-19 hours on my
regular usage(Wifi always on, Bluetooth on for 1-2 hrs, GPS off) on my moto
x.
With respect to the battery consumption on Cellular Standby, I noticed that
certain services are not killed if mobile when data is turned on and then
turned off. If you are enabling the mobile data and then turning it off
then you have to switch off your cell phone and then switch it
on. This is the only fix which I have found out.Possibly it will also work
for you.
Thanks,
Najmul
