Re: Motorola Mobility Lenovo Acquisition

Well, I just  received  my new wood Moto X today. I have to say that I am not very happy. It looks like the wood is half walnut and half bamboo.  There is only a wood grain on half of the phone. After building it and waiting for my new phone I am bummed.

Here is a pic of it and you can give me your opinion on it. Maybe I am just too much of person that want's things as I ordered them.

Every wood phone is different. Yours is unique. Looks awesome to me.

I don't see any obvious seams, so this is very likely a solid piece of wood veneer. That's the nice thing about real wood like this--unique characteristics, which I realize doesn't console you if you don't like how it turned out. But I agree with @Boyd.K...nice to have something that is completely different than any other.

When I install a wood floor, pieces like your phone are the ones I try hard to place in exposed areas of the floor. I relegate the ones that are uniform, as much as possible without looking contrived, to places under the furniture.

IMHO, you got lucky with that one!   :-)

To me, it kind of looks like a log that has been split open.  Bark on the right and inside of the log on the left.

IMO I think the phone looks flawless. I've heard stories about the wood backs having little air bubbles in them.  If your phone does not have these air bubbles on the back plate then I wouldn't send it back.  But if you are not pleased and are not 100% satisfied then I would return it. Returning the phone is easy. Just call Motorola and speak to the moto maker support and say you would like to send your custom phone back and they will e-mail you a code to make another phone and will ship it to you no charge. When you receive your new phone put the phone that youre sending back into the box and take it to a fedex store and that's it.

I have to say, I like it too. It's unique and kinda fun. I have read in the past that Motorola uses a fairly generic wood for its backs and stains it to get the different looks, (walnut, ebony etc). The bamboo back is genuine bamboo.

Many of us have been concerned as to how Motorola would fare under new ownership, and whether it would remain a U.S. - based company. Today, a story was released on the Official Motorola Blog, that Motorola just unveiled its new global headquarters in downtown Chicago.

"Located inside the historic Merchandise Mart alongside the Chicago River, the new headquarters encompasses more than 600,000 square feet, including 75,000 square feet of dedicated lab space, making it one of the premiere R&D and prototyping facilities in the world. The office is home to nearly 2,000 Motorolans..."

News item regarding Motorola's new headquarters and facilities was published on the Verge. It also discussed in some detail the vision and mission the now Lenovo-owned company. Personally, although some have decried the acquisition, I find much to be optimistic about. They are also committed to making a big impact with the Moto 360. By the way, note the description of their "butt machines," that simulate sitting on a Moto X over and over. Who knew?

The butt machines are just as hilarious as they sound.
