Wave to see MotoDisplay not working on Moto X 2013

2015-07-02, 11:33 AM

I have an asia retail MotoX 1st gen.

Got the Lolipop 5.1 update today, and found out that when I wave over the sensor/camera the Moto display does not show up anymore.

It used to work like a charm in Kitkat, but now I can't get it working. Did anybody else notice it?

Anybody can tell me how to make it work again?  :(

I've noticed that. It seems that Motorola has decided to disable this option in Lollipop. It worked with proximity sensor and so it consumed energy. Maybe minimizing on energy consumption is the reason.

Actually, it was a bug. It was not supposed to do that. Many, including myself liked it. There is a thread on this here somewhere. Others have asked. Maybe Motorola will turn the bug into a feature in the future.

It was actually never an actual feature in KitKat, but rather a bug. Apparently they have fixed the bug now unfortunately.

But how can Motorola be so ignorant to turn such sweet feature/bug off from a release that is supposed to bring new features.

extreemly disappointed with this.

Anybody from Motorola is here who can here all the 1st gen users and give it back?

X2 has four Moto Actions: Twist, Chop, Wake, Silence.

X1 has only 1 Moto Action: Twist.

I can only think of two reasons that X1 is missing the other three actions.

Reason 1: These features are reliable on X2, but unreliable on X1 (This could be true at least for wake, I had seen X1 wake up by lights on/off, people walk by my phone etc.)

Reason 2: Moto intentionally disables feature on X1 to promote X2 (This could be true for chop gesture)

If it is for reason 2, then that is promise broken by Motorola - It has promised to give all features of X2 that is hardware possible.

If it is for reason 1: I suggest that Moto put these features into beta feature category (kind of like chrome beta features, or let us access through deep buried menu, e.g. developers features, and use at our own risk. For example, don't complain that chop is activated and flashlight is on while you are walking with X1 in pocket - Or send us a warning: Don't walk like a Ninja)

I really loved that bug/feature (wave-to-wake) as so much other people.

There is no answers from Motorola developers, will it be returned or not. Please comment something about that! :)

P.S. Try to hold your hand about 5 seconds over your Moto X 2013. Then remove your hand and it works (maybe because of IR sensor...).

It's the hardware that's holding it back, so I doubt you'll see its return.

Hardware? It worked on the same device on KitKat. Or what do you mean?

Some people install Tasker application on Moto X 1 gen. to get the same functionality.

Yes, hardware.  The fact that it worked doesn't mean that it worked efficiently or even consistently, unfortunately.  I felt like a wizard when it worked on my X1, but I have to agree that it works much better on my X2.
