New User Curious About MotoNav 565t Accessories?

2010-12-29, 18:08 PM

Has Motorola stopped supporting this gps? They no longer seem to carry any mounting kits or parts for it on their website other than a carry case, travel charger and SD card.

I'm having constant satellite disconnects where ive mounted it in my grand cheroke (down low on right side of console) and id like to try making a secondary mounting position elsewhere such as ontop of dash or on windshiled but the unit only came with 1 of those 3M mounting disks and im assuming i need another disk to remount it somewhere else (will the cradle mount to windshiled without the disk?).

I was also wondering if they had a small external antenna (small enough to leave inside my vehicle) i could use that might offer improved satellite connectivity so i wouldnt have to bother with remounting at all.

I received this as a gift but since there doesnt seem to be any retailers selling it or support parts/accessories im wondering if its a dead product and if i should start looking into another gps system for myself altogether.

Thanks for any insight!

Motorola never did carry many accessories at all for all the TN XXX series of gps`s.  You can find some aftermarket items on Amazon, such as charging cords and cradles.

There is no external antenna available at this time, however.

You CAN mount your suction cup (without the adhesive disc) to your windshield.  The adhesive disc is for mounting on the dash area or console, if you have the room to do so.

I , also, have a Grand Cherokee and the method I use, is a bean bag mount (available from many sources) and that way, I can place it anywhere on the dash area that works the best for me.

Motorola support has been very sparse in rectifying problems, and the generic response is to send it back, for a replacement.  This gps series first came out last March, so hopefully, thier product line of assessories may expand in the future.

I`ve never experianced a satellite signal loss, with my unit  being on the dash, (and I`ve had mine since last April) hope this helps you out some.  BTW...welcome to the forum........

Thank you, Moondog...appreciate the info.

Im assuming that the bean bag mount doesnt slide around while driving?

Is any generic bean bag mount ok, or do i need to search for a specific one that's compatible?

Sure thing........when looking for bean bag mount, try to find the heaviest one (weight wise) and a center diameter of 2 1/4 inches or greater, which is easy to find.  I really haven`t had any problem with the bean bag mount sliding around at all, but then again, I have it in the "well" in the center of dash facing towards me.  Whats extra nice with the bean bag mount, is that it`s extermely portable and you can take it out of the vehicle when you desire, or transfer to another vehichle quite easity should you want to do that.........The price usually runs anywhere from around $20 to $30 (on the average) depending just where you find the one you want.........

BTW...any generic bean bag mount with the above dimensions will work just fine.......

I saw this particular set at Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Windshield-Holder-Motorola-MOTONAV-TN565T/dp/B003L1ILVK/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1293648128&sr=8-6

...says its compatible with the 565t so perhaps ill consider getting this one since i can use it for both the windshiled AND dash options...shipping's a bit of a rape but oh well...actually now that i think about it the whole unit seems overpriced...I bet Ronco would push this stuff out the dorr for $14.99 + S&H, hehe.

Thanks again for the help btw!

I`ve never used that particular brand, but it may be ok for you.  If you have a local Radio Shack, they had (or did have) a heavy duty bean bag  universal mount if you wish to check there too.........the bean bag mount I got there was GREAT.

If you have any Big Lots stores in your area they sometimes carry a generic bean bag for $9-10 and it works well.  You attach the suction cup to it.  Went all the way across the USA twice (10,000 miles) and never had a problem with it.

Also - Garmin mount balls are compatible with the Motonav.  They have a couple dash options - a bean bag and a smaller unit.  They are on Amazon and maybe pictures in some other thread on here.

Here is the $10 one - also on Amazon for $13.

I don't think it would be difficult to find a small piece of vinyl to trim to copy the stick-on mounting base.  Try a plastics supplier or I'd use the 3M "Command" adhesive strips sold for removeable hooks.  Windshield mounts are technically illegal in some states, thats why they include the adhesive mount.
