Atrix 2 with external usb drive

2013-04-25, 12:32 PM

Hi,

I would mount an external thumb drive to Atrix 2.

I have the OTG cable with USB powering feature. Mouse and keybord are working but I couldn't mount any external drive.

Is there any solution to that?

Thanks,

T

Hi TBoneHU,

The only Motorola device that can recognize an external USB drive is the Xoom 2.

All the other devices are not capable of that, sorry.

Hope that helps although it is a bit of a bummer.

Cheers,

Nicole

Hi Nicole,

Thank you for the description.

"All the other devices are not capable of that..."

That's quite interesting, since with a docking station it mounts FAT32. The functionality must be done by the phone itself, so here I don't understand how can it be possible.

The kernel module should be on the phone, since it uses that for the SDHC card also. If I give power to the external drive, it also should be mountable, since everything is on the phone.

BTW, kbd and mouse are working well.

Am I mistaken?

Regards,

T

Hi TBoneHU,

You are right in principle, the hardware and the stucture is there, but it is not possible for the phone to recognize external drives.

I don't know if this is something that will be implemented in the future in stock Android, but in the moment it is not possible.

Cheers,

Nicole
