Network Connectivity Problem

2012-08-06, 10:04 AM

Hello people,

I brought my motorola atrix 2 mb865 15 days ago in India. I am on Airtel Network here.

The network on my cellphone snaps repeatedly at times and then "Emergency Calls only" thing shows up.

at times this happens every 2 min. i am out of network for sometime then it comes back again and then again out and the cycle goes on.

And in areas where i  received full network on my previous phone I now see only 2 bars of network out of 5. it never goes above that.

i talked to airtel customer care about snapping of network, they said that you should change your setting to manual selection of network and then select airtel there and that will solve the problem. But that was in vain. nothing seems to have changed even after doing that.

After going through some forums it seems the the problem is with motorola'a phone. I didnt have any problem of network on my previous phone with the same simcard.

Guys please help. Should I go to the motorola service centre or talk to them on phone or just wait for any update( i am on android version 2.3.6 ) currently.

janichirag 123,

Most of us here are on AT&T's network in the United States and aren't familiar with your carrier.  However, I spend some time in one area of the country where I lose connectivity to the network, see the universal no symbol and get the "Emergency Calls Only" message too.  In my case it is very rare but when it happens I am in an extremely rural area and, like yours, my phone returns to its normal state within a minute or two.  I happen to know that in my case where this happens the network is very sparse and fails periodically.  I never have it happen anywhere else around the country.

Having said all of that and with your phone as new as it is what I would do is either return it to the place that I purchased it or if you have a Motorola Service Center that you can walk in to I would take it to them for help.

@janichirag123

Is this an AT&T branded phone? Have you updated your SIM card as they are sometimes the culprit on newer phones.

janichirag 123,

AlphaDog is exactly correct.  When I got my Atrix 2 I had a SIM card issue that took over a week to get straightened out.  It was so bad that it messed up my phone and my wife's phone somehow and became a big long story that I won't bore you with.  That's why with a phone as new as yours I recommend going back to whoever you bought it from or Motorola whichever is the correct protocol in India.

Good luck with it,

Steve Weiss

Hey thank you guys for showing interest

well @ AlphaDog I am NOT on AT&T, I am on Airtel in INDIA.

well apparently the signal snapping problem is only in a particular area of my city .but i never had any such problem on my older phone.

Anyways I talkd to the Airtel customer care again and registered a complaint. and they told me that the issue will be resolved in next 7 days.

If the issue isnt resolved then i guess ill have to talk to motorola customer care centre.

thnx.

@janichirag123 - I saw you were on Airtel, but is your phone an AT&T branded phone? Is it the AT&T branded Atrix 2?

AlphaDog

No, my phone is not an at&t branded phone.  It is like a motorola unlocked phone. there is no at&t symbol anywhere on the phone

Same problem with the Atrix 2 here too. I previously owned Nokia 5230 , which had good signal strength, but at same places my new atrix 2 drops signal or doesnt show any network. Other friends mobiles are communicating well and showing the avg signal at the places. On BSNL network. Definately some sort of problem with Moto Atrix 2. Didnt expect with such a costly phone..:-(

I am also facing the same issue phone enters "Emergency Calls only" . Using vodafone network will need to manually search network 2 to 3 times only then network shows up and gets connected

This happened after updating to system version 55.28.37.mb865.asiaretail.en.03
