Updating to ICS getting "upgrading media database"

2012-11-10, 1:48 AM

I am currently upgrading to ICS. I have been looking at "upgrading media database" for just about 6 hours. I have read a ton of forum posts in other areas that have verying amount of times that they have allowed this to sit. I was wondering if I might get an "official" answer on how long I should wait until I give up. I know that forcing it to restart is going to result in me doing a factory reset that I definitly do not want to do, so I dont want to give up too soon. I do doubt anyone will answer tonight so I am going to get stuck, but throwing it out there anyway.

7 hours was enough for me. I forced it to reboot, holding volume and power, then restarted and it works. Only problems are my gallery and my music do not work. Probably more wrong than that I am guessing. My music ap works fine though. Maybe a third party gallery will work as well.

I do not want to do a factory reset.

Oh, and just in case anyone was wondering, I pulled my SD card out before doing the update, so my music, pictures and movies were not even on the phone when I did the update. No reasonable reason why it should take so long to complete the update!

If you don't want to do a factory reset, then there is not much we can offer. Sometimes in place updates get stuck do to some application on the phone. I have had updates on phones render some basic functions incomplete, and the only recourse is a reset.

that is the only suggestion i have to fix your problem.

If you yank the SD card it will work (during the update), you will have to backup your SD card(good idea before upgrade anyway) then reload all of your stuff.  More music, pictures, etc the longer the update will take.  I had to do this when I did the upgrade.
