Audio distortion - large movie files

2012-07-20, 18:33 PM

With large movie files (greater than 500MB), there is audio distortion while playing during action sequences or loud volume dialog (does NOT occur with audio files or as far as I can tell smaller video files).

Can you please try and give additional details on the distortion itself ? Is it crackling or is it completely inaudible, cutting in and out  and also please let us know if this is happening with multiple large files that you have tried. Thank you.

Hi Girish,

certain levels, the audio becomes tinny and distorted (like underwater and almost scrambled) - it isn't blow out like if you overdrive speakers... and it happens via headphones and using the speaker in the Atrix HD. It has happened with all the MP4 videos I have tried.

Hand-in-hand, please see also my post about the corded remote not working...

Thanks!

It may be the way the file was created/encoded.

Are you playing the file as-is or did you encode it yourself?

I encoded it - plays fine on Windows Mobile, Xyboard, Xoom, Atrix 4G, Windows 8, Windows XP, and Mac OS...

However, none of those other devices run an S4 processor or an Adreno GPU :P

I had the same problem on HTC One X, needed to change the profile on the encoding. I changed the output to highest on both audio/video and changed the resolution to 720p. If it was a larger file with default rates, loud sounds made it sound like the speaker was made out of the cellophane they use as the windows on envelopes. The files worked fine on my other devices.

Edit: The files will need to be in mp4 format also.
