2012-08-05, 21:46 PM

The ATRIX HD and the DROID RAZR. Two similar looking devices, but how similar is the experience?

This thread is to show you how similar they really are, and my impression of both.

Device thickness on the RAZR is less due to the AMOLED screen not having a backlight. The difference is negligible, however the extra thickness makes the ATRIX easier to hold and grab on to.

Rear of the devices;

Both phones have 8MP rear shooters in the back which record 1080p video with 1.3MP cameras up front which shoot 720p video.

The images on the ATRIX HD are slightly better than ones shot on the RAZR with sharper images.

Both are covered with Dupont's KEVLAR material which adds durability as well as makes it easy to hold due to the texture.

Screen;

The RAZR uses a SUPER AMOLED screen which has a pentile qHD display. Blacks are black, colors are beyond vivid, however the pentile layout causes pixilation on fine text and around edges depending on color/backdrop.

The ATRIX HD uses a TFT LCD screen with "ColorBoost". Is 1280x720 in resolution resulting in a DPI of 330, which is higher than the screen on the iPhone 4S' Retina Display. Even getting up close and personal, you can't see the individual pixels. Blacks are not as dark due to the backlight, but colors are just as, if not more vivid than the AMOLED display. Atrix HD's screen wins hands down.

Ports;

Both phones have the same layout on top. The RAZR has support for a Lapdock where as the Atrix HD does not, however the HDMI connection remains and can be used on an HDTV.

Performance;

Both of these devices are no slouch, but the ATRIX HD's S4 processor is a beast. Using the RAZR pervious to owning the ATRIX HD was perhaps the best experience I have had in a mobile device to date, with everything feeling fluid and quick..

Then I got the ATRIX HD. Night and day as far as performance, it alone makes the ATRIX HD well worth the price, which is quite low considering devices with similar specs and no expandibile storage are more expensive.
