Re: ICS 1200mhz?

I got my Atrix 2 less than a month ago and there after i proceeded with the ICS OTA upgrade. I have noticed that after the ICS update the processor is back to its own clock speed i.e 1.2ghz rather than then usual underclocked speed i.e 1ghz. But this had occured with all the other moto atrix 2 users in India. But my atrix 2 is still stuck on 1ghz. When i asked the customer care thet are saying that ICS is a software upgrade and hardware wont get affected( which i know very well ). But my question is what about other users? Why have they been upgraded to 1.2 and am still on 1ghz state. Even www.gsmarena.com is showing that atrix 2 has a 1.2ghz dual core processor.

A fast reply will be very much appreciated.

Thank You.

I can't say 100% certain this is the case, but I'd guess the OMAP 4430 (1.0 - 1.2 GHz), the OMAP 4460 (1.2 -1.5 GHz), and the OMAP 4470 (1.5 - 1.8 GHZ) are made all at the same time and TI determines what Processor is what model in the "binning" process. That is what INTEL does with their CPUs. Search Tom's Hardware for "Intel Shows How A CPU Is Made".

If the above hypothisis is true, then It is probable that there are some Atrix 2 CPUs (OMAP4430) that could have been classified as a 4460, but were sent out as a 4430 to Motorola, and found their way into the handsets of those that are seeing a 1.2 GHz frequency.

When I look at "Android System Info" my phone appears to run at 300 MHz when in Standby, and usually at 1.2 Ghz when I'm using the phone, but it does show that the phone runs at 600MHz, 800MHz, and 1.0GHz for breif moments in time. This makes me think that ICS is trying to run the processor as fast as possible when the Phone is in use, and as slow as possible in standby.

I think there were 2 kinds of Chipsets TI OMAP some of them have the possibility for clock speed at 1.2ghz but others not, ICS is only a OS and show only the hardware that you have, is like you see for a window.

Here is my wife's either refurb or new A2 due to an exchange today at the Jacksonville, FL Device Support Center because of screen pixallation that looked like the phone had turned into an Etch-A-Sketch! -- After upgrading to ICS.

My phone is the same as your phone is Eagle328. Why is the clock speed not the same? I emailed Motorola but no response!!!!

Very interesting... I just wonder why it isn't standardized at least across phones on a particular service or region.

So is the concensus that just some phones got a different chipset or is there something different about the OTA upgrades?
