Incorrect Location Information

2012-04-12, 13:21 PM

Hello Experts,

I am using my Atrix 2 only on WiFi (I have taken out of sim Card) in a foreign country. Google Maps, News and Weather apps are not able to determine my current location. Also, the stock weather widget inaccurately determines the location. Also when I go to google.com and yahoo.com from my browser, it goes to the customized page of the foreign country. Also, the location is enabled for WiFi and disabled for GPS. Since, I only using WiFi, using GPS is not useful.

What do you think the problem could be?

Thank You,

Sanket

For the best location detection GPS is the best way to go. Wifi really is an add on to help detail your location better. It uses no data either.

Re: Incorrect Location Information

When I was in US, I only turned on GPS only during navigation. To use location based apps like Google Places and YPmobile, Wifi was enough to predict my approximate location. However, now my location is predicted in Madison, WI even though I am outside US. Weather apps mentioned above dont even provide a location.

Based on your suggestion, I also turned on GPS. But still my location wasn't determined. This was surprising to me as well. Any suggestions to debug this??

Now that is strange.... The GPS should give you your location. I have not traveled out of the US. I hope someone who has might be able to help with this. I would say try a reset but if there is another way I would wait and see.

The only thing I can think of is to make sure the time is set correctly to where you are.
