Razr™ i Disabled commands even after unlocking.

2012-10-04, 1:21 AM

The following things I have tried to done with my unlocked RAZR i I cannot do...

  • C:\Users\matt>fastboot flash logo D:\matt\Desktop\customBootLogo.img

    sending 'logo' (855 KB)...

    OKAY [  0.377s]

    writing 'logo'...

(bootloader) Not allow to flash none signed image

    FAILED (remote failure)

    finished. total time: 0.651s

  • C:\Users\matt>fastboot boot D:\matt\Desktop\razr_i_boot.img

    creating boot image...

creating boot image - 11536384 bytes

    downloading 'boot.img'...

    OKAY [  1.101s]

    booting...

    (bootloader) Command restricted

    FAILED (remote failure)

    finished. total time: 1.283s

So I cannot flash custom boot logos, and booting (not flashing) from kernels is disabled even when the bootloader is unlocked... Quite dissapointing.

That's strange. I've flashed at least an unsigned boot.img on an unlocked RAZR i.

The logo might be signed only, cause isn't this where it says "unlocked" at startup? ;)

I bet I could certainly flash a unsigned boot.img, but the 'fastboot boot' doesn't permanently put it on there, just runs the kernel once. It's a great tool for testing anyway.

I can survive with 'fastboot flash' once "we" get this strange boot.img figured out, kernel offsets are all different on x86 it seems! :)

Alright then. I was a bit confused, cause I've read "fastboot flash boot..." wouldn't work at first, but that should be the whole point of an unlocked bootloader.:)

Yeah if that were the case I'd be pretty upset at voiding a warranty for no custom kernels lol.

I asked the team to take a look, Matt.

Please do not PM me - if you have issues, search the forums for threads on your topic and post there, or start a new thread. Thanks!

Appreciate it Matt, it's the same on the RAZR HD as well according to my buddy.

Was there ever a solution to this? I received this same error on my HD while trying to flash and reboot into a custom recovery

I expect this continues with the RAZR HD as it exists in the Moto X DE currently.

@OlivierM responds here: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/650cf49fd9?commentId=764491#764491

with regards to fastboot boot being restricted in unlocked bootloaders.

He also comments on the OP's initial question regarding where to get Motorola's version of fastboot since it was not in the recovery file as should have been per the recovery download/instructions.
