Will rooted PureEd MotoX 2014 receive lollipop OTA

2014-11-13, 2:56 AM

I have a Pure Edition Moto X 2nd Generation. I've unlocked the device and rooted it to use Xposed modifications (still using stock 4.4.4 rom). Now that people are starting to receive Android 5 (Lollipop) OTA I've removed the mods. Since its the stock ROM will I get the OTA update or is there something else I need to do to get Lollipop on my phone?

Perhaps I misunderstand, but I'm already using stock. Is it no longer considered "stock" if its rooted?

More than whether or not I should take the OTA, I'm curious if while rooted I will even get the option to. Right now when I check for system updates it tells me I'm already up to date.

That's right, once rooted, u're not stock anymore.

U would get the ota notification when rooted, but it wouldn't flash with custom recovery. U need stock recovery for it to flash successfully.

If u flash stock recovery and take the ota, u might get away with it if u haven't modded a lot, but it is possible to brick. That's why it is safer to flash back to 100% stock before taking an ota...

I have a similar question.  I have a rooted Moto X 2 but I never flashed anything.  To root, all I did was

fastboot boot pure2014sb.img  (Ie boot, not flash) and then immediately installed Chainfire Super SU.

After doing this, I was still able to accept the previous OTA update with no issues and did not even lose root.  I still have the original rom and stock recovery.  I am not sure what flashing the same ROM and recovery that I already have would do.  I've tried several sources for information.   Still coming up empty.

Are you saying that even though I never flashed any new ROM or New recovery, that I should still flash the stock rom again to remove root access?  I am not sure how I would remove root access with a fast boot BOOT method.

Thanks

You should be fine if u just rooted without flashing custom recovery, custom rom or modified ur system.

What about if I never rooted or unlocked a 5.0 update but just downloaded the file onto my device and installed it via recovery.

It seems the 5.0 I downloaded isn't the latest one.
