Re: Bootloader Unlock Problems?

@GonzaloBenjamin

Please provide output of getvar all and get OEM unlock data - unformatted. Cut and paste it all from cmd window

Re: Bootloader Unlock Problems?

@Khyatish

If the output of fastboot oem get_unlock_data shows unavailable/failed then service is needed. There is no way to provide an unlock code if that command fails.

Re: Bootloader Unlock Problems?

But why the command fails if device is eligible? No OTA updates. Any way to update system?

OTA updates are not related to bootloader unlock.

Re: Bootloader Unlock Problems?

Googling turned this up old case. It seems maybe you can still flash it even when it's locked Or maybe just keep trying to get the unlock code like 30 times. Try different ways of getting into fastboot. I just did that and got nowhere. Tried the 'restart bootloader' option a couple times. But also that was a Moto G, not E.

Saying it needs service essentially means throw it away. I paid $40 for this phone lightly used, I doubt it's worth fixing with technician labor rates being what they are. There is some backup possible with adb (see the man page), so in theory you could undo a botched flashing by putting the original back. Maybe there's an answer at XDA if you dig enough or post a question maybe. I'd like to load Ubuntu Touch on this but if I can't I can use it as a hotspot without unlocking, I think. By design yes but the 'retus' carrier may restrict it. Not giving up yet.

Fastboot and adb both have man pages but neither mentions any of the oem options. Inside your phone is a fairly complex Linux box but we're stuck inside some program trying to find a way out. We aren't seeing the big picture.

Re: Bootloader Unlock Problems?

At Andriod Forums I found:

    Hi,
    For Working this commend "Fastboot oem get_unlock_data" First you need to remove or delete your phone's LOCK like your fingerprint, face-unlock, pattern or password. And keep on NONE option in lock screen preference. After all above procedure done than You run that commend "Fastboot oem get_unlock_data".
    It will work 200%

I haven't tried this yet. But since it's a used phone maybe the prior owner had something set. Just doing searches (outside) and following up on what I find. Is this problem even unique to Motorolas? Don't know yet. my search
