Re: Electrify M Froze

2013-04-22, 20:30 PM

I have had the same experience with both my wife's phone as well as my own.  I read the post from I.j210 and executed the cache clearing last Friday.  My phone froze the next day and again this afternoon.  My wife's phone was freezing quite often and USCC replaced it once already.  The new one still freezes.  I spent a half hour with support and they could not figure this out.  They also told me that there have been no other reports of this happening.  It seems as though there have been.  My wife is ready to take her Samsung Mesmerize back.  Very frustrating!

PS.  USCC Support suggested that I go back to the store and have them uninstall Jelly Bean and reinstall ICS.  I'm not sure this will work since the problem was occurring before the upgrade.

Bobbio, have you looked into what apps you have running? Because my phone almost never freezes.

I would consider disabling apps you do not use such as:
Amazon
Amazon MP3
Amazon app store
Audible
Chrome(if you use a different browser or the beta version)
City ID
Daily perks
E-mail(if gmail is your primary)

Also face unlock, Google play books, Google play magazines,Google play movies and tv,guide me, HD games, imdb, mobile TV,
Slacker radio,swype,talk,
Tone room deluxe,Twitter, uno, vehicle mode, voice commands,WiFi now, and zappos. Nearly all of these constantly run in the back ground. These are just suggestions and I am in no way responsible for any damage caused. (Though there shouldn't be any)

Are you power cycling your phones daily? That will clean out the "cobwebs"... apps that have not closed correctly or quietly running in the backround, previously accessed web pages, etc.

Make USCC exchange your phone(s). I truly believe there is a bad batch of electrify m's out there. After my 2 were swapped no problems since.

Thanks for the ideas.  I chatted with Motorola tech support yesterday and they first told me to clear the cache.  I told them that I did this and still had issues.  They gave me instructions to to a reset.  My understanding is that it will reset my phone to factory settings without deleting my files such as music and contacts etc.  Sound right?   I'll give that a try and see how it goes.  If it goes well then I will slowly add apps and see if any of them cause an issue.  If it doesn't go well they may replace the phones.  I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again.

@Bobbio65

Factory Data Reset, you need to backup onto your PC using your micro USB cable, any pictures, screenshot, music, added ringtones, etc. that is not saved on your optional microSD card.

I'm on my 4th Electrify M - I keep having to return them because of the "lock-up" issue. The 4th one started doing the same thing - it locks up at random times and cannot be turned on without doing the power reset (holding down the power button and volume down button at the same time for at least 10 seconds). I have missed important phone calls, texts and alarms because it locked up and I didn't realize it. I have owned Motorola phones in the past and have never had an issue, but after this I will NEVER again purchase a Motorola. I can't wait for US Cellular to offer the iPhone in the fall - I will be the first in line and my Electrify M will be thrown into the closest river!
