Electrify 4g Antenna Upgrade?

2011-12-01, 16:00 PM

I know there is a spot in the Electrify for a 4g antenna & can or will it be upgraded when US Cellular rolls out their 4g LTE network?

I would say the answer to that is no. It would almost be a logistically impossible. Every electrify owner would have to take their phone to a tech to have it done and I'm sure its not a quick, easy and out the door process. Not to mention there would also need to be a software update because the electrify does not have any software to run 4g.

I think he's wondering if a simple software update will fix it, as the phone's twin (photon 4G) has a "4G" radio. That 4G radio is for WiMax, not LTE (which is what US cellular will be getting) and according to the 5th post here: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/60872?tstart=30 , that radio has been removed.

I believe @cdrice is correct on both accounts (hardware and software hurdles are too much to attempt to "upgrade" the Electrify)

Is it possible to use the similar card slot for a 4g capability?

The phone has all the capabilities of doing it the only upgrades would be base station and software which I don't see why the wouldn't try and get an upgrade, because I would be first in line.  I have spoken to a tech at USC before the phone was released and he said possibility of some kind of upgrade.

Nokia Siemens has released info of an upgrade to CDMA to make it faster and more cost effective so who knows what's next.

There will be no 4g update for this device. There was never a 4g radio installed due to the fact US Cellular could not find a company to manufacture the radio for their specific LTE when the Electrify was released. The device will however get ICS according to Motorola.
