During the driver install, MTP USB device fails. Four of the five catagories work just fine, but this one fails every time.
I am not the only person having this problem, but I can not find this issue on the support forum.
Do i send the phone back to USCellular?
Do I send the phone back to Motorola?
or is there a fix for this on Microsoft or Motorola?
Please advise
Motorola or someone with an idea on how to fix this.

Same thing happened to me tonight with the phone which I just had swapped because of (it turned out) bad software and bad documentation on 3 way calls and video chat.
Tried to connect my brand new PC via USB to the Electrify. Made sure I had all the latest drivers and updates and approached the problem several ways and repeatedly got the MTP USB device fail error.

@dataylor and @kiterider
Would you both please indicate what computer and operating system (including what version) you are using with your Electrify's?
Also, are you trying to load any software onto your computers for the Electrify (like drivers, or Motorola help software)?
On a different forum, I found this notation: "the fix is to go into the Device Manager, Uninstall the “Unknown MTP device” and scan for hardware changes." This suggestion applies to Windows computers obviously...

eaccents:
I have a brand new just out of the box yesterday Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7. I loaded all electrify drivers from the Motorola site.
I'll give your suggestion a try this evening.

Question about USB drivers, have you installed this driver on your PC:

Motorola 5.2.0 USB driver with MotoHelper...

edited by: Poko... you may need to uninstall that driver, reboot your PC, then reinstall the USB with MotoHelper driver. Do Not Connect Your Phone until the driver is completely installed... try rebooting your PC again before connecting your phone via USB cable.

The driver you linked to was the driver I used and my PC was a pure virgin when I tried the first time.
Out of the Box New Dell. One week old New Electrify with zero apps loaded.
Literally the first thing I tied to conect after McAfee.
I did not attempt to uninstall the second time I installed the driver.
And the phone has been unconnnected during each attempt and only attached after the download.
Have not had time to locate the driver and flush the system and reboot and reload and reattach.
This is not how it is suppose to go when you buy top of the line.
Did I mention...
- The 3 way calling instructions are wrong on page 13 of the manual.
- The front facing video camera and gingerbread and google chat in fact will not let me sign with my deaf cousin.
- Support determined I needed a phone swap to fix those two items....not the problem or solution...
- The manual flash only goes off after the shutter so I get a black photo.
- The macro lens does not focus at all after one foot
- And now I can not connect to my PC.
Still all it is fast on the surf with a nice screen and good reception.
