They actually do, without it they can't lock the phones.

Are you saying that all that one needs to do to easily load a custom ROM is to walk in and ask a Cincinnati Bell employee to unlock the phone? If so, nobody would be that ruffled at all about the locked bootloader and we'd all be running a community build 2.2 ROM already.

no, the baseband and the bootloader are different, but to access the baseband you need access to the bootloader. Also, Cincinnati Bell doesn't unlock their phones.

Cincinnati bell and every other service provider have to unlock your phone if you legally bought it from them. I have done it many of times. They have to give you the unlock code.

Re: Froyo on the US XT720 ?

I have purchased milestone xt 720  in UAE and its really amazing phone  but im very upset that being such a  costly phone, motorola has marked  online that this high multimedia  phone (as motorola say) will remain on  android 2.1.

the  model on lower segment than motorola xt720 are  getting froyo updates  and higher segment phone like Milestone is set to  remain on older  platform.

kindly  requesting motorola to update the android 2.1  to 2.2 fast or it would  be just a dumb phone and being a bad reputation  to motorala.

please think and we are waiting for update.

PLEASE UPDATE THE ANDROID 2.1 TO 2.2 ON MOTOROLA MILESTONE XT720

KINDLY AWAITING FOR THE UPDATE STATUS SOON... DONT LET US BE DISSAPPOINTED, HOPE MOTOROLA WILL CONSIDER OUR REQUEST

Registered just to vote for the upgrade.  Motorola, used to be great about this stuff.  At least unlock the bootloader.
