Re: Froyo on the US XT720 ?

2010-12-09, 1:53 AM

lol dude, im 16, i have a lot of room to grow up. Your the one being a jerk. I am only stating the facts, and what exactly was I wrong about? Because it seems to me like you have been proven wrong, many times. First off, from when you said Motorola "promised" froyo for the XT720, when you have found no documentation what so ever. Another thing, when you called me either illiterate, and some other things, when you told me to check the android upgrade timetable, and you said the xt720 is staying on 2.1, you did not read the US version of the xt720, because its not listed. You also said when motorola "promised" froyo, that it would be here Q1 of 2011, when the only XT720 device on the market, the Korean Motoroi, is listed to recieve froyo Q4 of this year. Anything else you wanna say?

> honestly, the way it sounds, i think we'll be stuck on 2.1

I think I have to agree with that. The only things that indicate otherwise are lack of XT720 listed for US and the claim that someone saw 2.2 being tested on a Cincinnati Bell employee's phone. Since Cincinnati Bell denies they have 2.2 for testing this either means that Motorola has stopped the trial or it never existed (or it's super effectively top secret). The XT720 isn't widely available in the US (I think I read somewhere it was planned to go to T-mobile initially but that apparently went nowhere). Sorry guys, I think hope is dead.

Also, it's pretty clear that Motorola sales and marketing were running their mouths non-committally suggesting that 2.2 was in the works for the XT720 as evidenced by the numerous reviews that state Motorola promises 2.2 will be forthcoming. Perhaps we'll get 2.3. Not holding my breath and I'm not counting on it. Maybe, maybe we can take the signed kernel from the motoroi if they actually release it and build a cynanogen like the other Milestone now has. I've learned my lesson about cell phone manufacturers and locked devices. I will never buy a bootlocked phone again.  The Nexus is back!

Re: Froyo on the US XT720 ?

thats exactly what i was thinking, and yes it was supposed to go to t-mobile, or thought to be going to t-mobile because we share the same 3G bands, so once it hit the FCC and they showed that it had t-mobile bands everyone got really excited, and then found out that it was going to cincinnati bell. But people DO NOT LOSE HOPE!!!!!!!!! I have said this several times, even if the US XT720 stays on 2.1, the motoroi is getting it. We do not need to unlock the bootloader to load firmware from a country variant. So when the motoroi gets it, we do to. There is also still the off chance that cincinnati bell is actually testing froyo. Patience is a virtue people.

> Patience is a virtue

Take this as advice from someone that has been dealing with corporations since before you were born... Don't waste your time. Once they have your money and they have no means of syphoning your bank account, and you have no means of getting your money back from then, you have zero leverage and they could care less. Face it, the XT720 is a phone that failed in the market and we've been triaged.

This review of the Motorola Defy was posted in Singapore Hardware Zone today. It mentions the Defy will ship with 2.1 and then continues:

"Nonetheless, Spiros Nikolakopoulos, Motorola's Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Devices for Asia & International Retail Distribution, did state that there will be a forthcoming Android 2.2 update in early 2011 for the Defy. In fact, both the earlier launched Motorola Milestone and Milestone XT are also slated for the Froyo update as confirmed by a Motorola spokesperson, though the actual timeframe hasn't been set just yet."

i hate to sound pessimistic, but i interpret that as him referring to the milestone xt (motoroi) in asia, which we're already aware is getting froyo. the lack of communication from moto staff here isnt real promising either

Re: Froyo on the US XT720 ?

I think it is apparent that the lack of responses on this forum from Motorola comes directly from the executive level. Two weeks ago I wrote to Dr. Jha directly to express my displeasure with the lack of information available and my hope that Motorola would upgrade the 720. I suggested he look at this forum and the Motorola Europe Facebook page to see how people feel about Motorola right now. As of today I have yet to get any kind of a response, not even a canned response. And since Mark nor anyone else from Motorola has added anything since before Thanksgiving I can only assume they have been told to keep quite.

I can't understand why, if Motorola is going to have a forum, they don't make any effort to respond to posts that are placed here.Obviously the people who post here are the ones who are most concerned with the direction the product is going and probably some of the more technically advanced users.  I think it justs shows how little they think of their customers that there is no effort to answer our concerns.

It has been confirmed, Cincinnati Bell IS testing Froyo, it is expected Q1 next year. Patience people. Like I said, Motorola had NOTHING to do with it.
