Cincinnati bell employees are no help they gave me customer support number so talked to there technical support for 20 mind and they say they are working on an update he couldn't tell me when tho. They aslo said the Flash ready meant it might get flash in the future. He also said" did you try searching the market for flash lite" wat a fucking joke. You wanna kno what he said when i complained bout the low internal memory. "Did you try putting your apps on your sd card" this guy had no idea what he was talking about what a great technical support. I asked bout unlocking the the phone they said they were incapable of unlocking it they told me to talk to motorola. Haha wow so i left my email with technical support to let me know what's goin on and he said they do have a paper that says we are getting update but no date for it.

When I logged a ticket with them asking about flash support I got an email with a page out of the user manual on how to turn on camera flash! Of course when I emailed her back to clarify the issue I never got an answer.

What a bunch of losers!

Is Flash Lite in the market? I couldn't find it.

WebKit may be "flash ready"--but don't the iPhone/iPod/iPad also use WebKit? Given Apple's stand on Flash support in iOS, if they tried to market their iOS devices as "flash ready" based on the framework support in WebKit being "flash ready", I would expect heads to roll.

@Cincyfan:

2.2 could be on the XT720.  You really don't think that it could not be developed?  Seriously?  It can be, the Motoroi is almost exactly like the xt720 and it is has 2.2.

Go to Adobe's site, not the market... flash isn't supported on 2.1.  End of discussion.  Our phone cannot install 10.1 flash in it's current state, without severe, contract-voiding modification.

@update

Sure, it probably could be, but it won't be. We've been written off. Mark seems pretty adamant that no amount of grumbling can possibly change this. The final business decision has been made (either by Motorola or Cincinnati Bell or both) to not invest any further resources into developing a 2.2 upgrade for the XT720 on Cincinnati Bell. That decision appears to be final. Elsewhere, Mark has clarified that 2.1 is the end of the line. We will not see an official 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.0. End of story. We may or may not see another update to 2.1 to addresses some of the outstanding bugs.

I may have misunderstood, but it seemed like servbot knows about some limited version of Flash from Adobe that could run on 2.1 phones. Possibly it's only available to OEM's or carriers...

Just a misunderstanding.  I completely agree there with you, we will never see a update.  Have you been posting to Cin Bell facebook page?  I plan on asking a good friend that works there what android phones they might get in.  Who knows what they might have in two years... probably the backflip...

Froyo for the Motoroi ran off the same kernel (operating system) it used in 2.1.  It would be possible... however difficult to make 10.1 supported on the xt720... the methods you would have to use would no doubt void your warranty and waste some considerable time.  The firmware is what was modified.

Re: Froyo on the US XT720 ?

Yes, but the devil is in the details. They only analyzed phones at the 4 big carriers. The only Motorola phones that got 2.2 in 2010 were on Verizon. I also have some methodological problems with the analysis. In particular, the phones are not weighted by the number of users of each device is given equal weight. So, for example Motorola has a 15% upgrade rate, but that doesn't mean that 15% of owners with Motorola phones saw 2.2. That average would probably be much, much higher because of the popularity of the Droid.

I imagine the development cost for the upgrade is approximately fixed, so the popularity of the device and hence the per subscriber development cost is much lower. Unfortunately, Cincinnati Bell is much smaller and I believe they are the only ones selling XT720 in the US. I read that originally T-Mobile was going to also have XT720--that would have spread development cost, but that didn't happen. So you can imagine how much development per subscriber works out for the XT720 at Cincinnati Bell. My suspicion is that Motoroi sold well enough in Korea that the development cost per phone didn't come out insane.
