Re: Froyo on the US XT720 ?

Good.

A word to the wise however, if any of you are thinking about switching brands (99.999999% of you are) I heard Samsung is just as bad (excluding Nexus S).  It looks like HTC is really the only promising brand.

Sure you can. Doesn't look like anyone is bothering to check this forum much anymore.

Alright, since you are here.  What are the odds of them ever unlocking the bootloader?

Who can we really complain to?

Honestly? Chances are not good, you're looking at 400,000,000:1. I think you have a better chance of winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning at the same time.

Complaints are heard here, they just don't tell you that they received your complaint. This board is viewed by more and more Motorola staff every day.

So about the same odds as getting an upgrade

Wow, awesome support from the Motorola staff members. (sarcasm)

Cannot wait to sell this phone and never buy from Motorola again. (not sarcasm)

People will catch onto your dirty ways of forcing users to buy new phone models

im curious why moto feels morally obliged to lock the bootloader on an OPEN platform. where is the logic in this? the ones that care to have it unlocked will find a way to unlock it and those that dont likely have no idea what the bootloader even is. so why not implement better business practices and allow the option to unlock it? do you guys think your doing us a favor? youre only alienating your user base

It does mean (for people that don't mod their phones) that anyone wanting to install backdoors that broadcast your GPS location/wiretaps on your phone has to go through Motorola or your carrier. Anyway, a lot of that can be done using the sanctioned apps from the Market, too. It does provide some protection to the masses that don't care about compiling their own stuff. Not as much protection as seeing the entire chain of software from AOSP and building it yourself, IMHO.
