Moto working on new watch

2014-02-19, 21:48 PM

Chatted with a friend recently who works for Moto.

He says that something is in the works.  Wouldn't give me any more about what and when.  But indicated that it is intended to be replacement for Motoactv.

He uses the Motoactv and too was sad that it got disco'd.  Said he recently he got 2 Motoactv from the dev team when his died.

Fingers crossed...

In the meantime, I'm getting all sweaty reading about the new Polar V800....

I have a MotoActv and so does my wife and I love it.  It's sad they discontinued it, but as long as the web site stays up it's all good.  If the website goes away too, then that does not bode well for support of current or future devices.

I totally would buy another device from them. Having been through mergers and acquisitions I understand how things, that were once important get dropped for other priorities. The Motoactv is a great product and yes it could use some tweaks here and there but overall I love mine. Hopefully Lenovo understands what they have and will push the new product out the door quickly.

I like it too, but it is not serious put a product like this in the market and in a few months put as discontinued, and without information about it.

Now, we don´t know how long will motoactv.com be online.

Sorry !!

My experience has been good.  I hate that the company dropped much of the supportt, and they could have handled the situation better.  Not sure who is to blame though?  Still, I love my watch and use it almost daily.  It still has more to offer than most smart watches out there today and it was designed in 2011!

I would definitely be all over a new Moto device. The support I received with mine was great and as far as an all-in-one device, nobody else could touch it. They should have learned a lot with the MotoActv and hopefully the next one will be even better.

Well the new moto 360 looks awesome, but it doesn't appear to cater to the sports watch category at all.  Too bad!  Tomtom + mp3 player anyone?  Or Adidas?

Adidas is too expensive... For the same price you have Garmin Fénix 2 is a  multisport watch.

Re: Moto working on new watch

I am as sad as the next person on the discontinuation of this device.  I sweat a lot and have avoided expensive devices for fear of breaking them (again).   I bought this after searching for an MP3 player that I could use for biking, spinning, running, etc.   One review I read was about a person (with video) in the shower with the device.  I was sold.  I ordered in Jan 2012 from Amazon and had delivered to Afghanistan.  I used it for the remainder of my time there (in and outdoors).  I have since used it running, biking, hiking, spinning, and walking (in some rain but not downpours).  I have a garmin cheststrap and SD-10 headphones (when I bike, but use seinnhauser corded indoors and when running).   I love the fact I have one device for music, gps, and online tracking.  There are better devices out there (garmin better with quicker gps reception as I use a Garmin 401 Forerunner for my scout hikes), but none that do it all in one.

It would be a good idea to have something like this.  All in ones are the way to go and people will buy them for the right price and features.  Maybe others have had durability issues - I have not.   Yes battery sucks, gps is slow to acquire, and connected devices can be a pain to stay connected (hr monitor).  BUT OVERALL I LOVE IT!
