RAZR V Poor reception

2013-05-08, 4:54 AM
My new RAZR V has noticeably worse reception than my old Sanyo700 phone, using the same service provider. I need better reception. Does Motorola make a booster for this phone? Is there currently a booster that is compatible? What frequency exactly does the RAZR V use?

I found a couple of signal boosting apps on google play, they probably won't help, but if not, i also found a Wilson booster for $400.

So, is the reception actually worse (dropping calls, network access), or are you just showing a different number of signal strength bars. Each manufacturer calibrates these differently, and in some cases, it may differ with phones from the same manufacturer. One manufacturers 4 bars could equal 5 bars on one phone and only 2-3 on another.

Not aware of any type of boosters from Moto (but don't know that for sure). You could check with your carrier to see if they have something.

The reception seems to be worse. When my phone drops a call more than once, I pick up my old phone or borrow someone elses, and then i am able to get through. Also, the phone will say 3 bars yet be unable to call, our it will say emergency calls only and won't even let me dial even though i just made a call from the same location 5 minutes earlier.

Have you tried re-seating the SIM card. Power down the phone, pull the card, and then re-insert (making sure it is pushed all the way in and locked). Then restart the phone. Don't know if that will help, but nothing to lose by trying.

I would check with your carrier on that. I know that my carrier here is the US (Verizon) does have network extenders, so possibly something yours may have.

Hi captain_kirk_9,

Try another SIM card to see if that helps, even if the current one is brandnew. Some components work better together than others for various reasons and this would be the easiest thing to test.

The RAZR V in Canada uses the following frequency bands in GHz:

2G Network

GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

3G Network

HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100

I am not aware of any commercial boosters. I heard that placing the phone in a bowl of metal foil can work for boosting the signal, but this isn't the most practical solution.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Nicole

I Found a reception booster on Cell Phone Shop.ca. It says that it boosts GSM 850Hz. Will this work for my RAZRv?

Apparently, RAZR v phone operate on gsm 850,900,1800, and 1900. So this should work for me let me know if I'm mistaken.

Hey captain_kirk_9,

Are you still with Bell? I read that they use 850 and 1900 MHz for both 2G and 3G so depending on which of that the booster boosts, it could work. Does it use 850 or 1900 in your region specifically? Maybe Bell knows.

Honestly, if you can, try it out first.

Good luck!

Nicole
