Auto Brightness

2011-11-23, 2:43 AM

The auto brightness setting does not seem to work at all on my unit.  I can slide the brightness bar and the screen brightness changes but when I set the auto option it never changes the brightness.  Is anyone else having this issue?

@yobyeknom,

My auto brightness functions correctly, but will not adjust to a lower setting without a significant rise in local ambient light (such as sunlight or a bright room). I prefer a brighter screen, so I keep my screen brightness turned up rather than using the auto brightness most of the time. If you place a bright light source over the Xoom FE, does the screen dim? If not, you might try rebooting your Xoom to see if that clears the issue.

Thanks!  I just tried using a flashlight and it does indeed seem to dim or brighten the screen when I flash the light directly on the sensor.  So it is working but it does not seem incredibly sensitive.

@yobyeknom,

It sounds like your auto brightness is functioning correctly, noting that sensitivity is low on all Xooms. Since this feature is driven by the Android OS, perhaps ICS will provide more options or better support. If not, we can always hope for a utility instead. There is a dynamite utility (Dim Lock) that I currently use to keep my Xoom 4G from dimming when it is charging, another handy feature not currently supported by the OS.
