You could tether the original xoom using bluetooth.  I don't see why the Xoom FE would be any different.

Here is the video for how its done on the original Xoom:

Hope this helps.

@bigach and armpower,

As noted for the referenced YouTube video, this method does not work with all phones (or even the majority), so it will depend largely on your cell phone model and provider. Also realize that Bluetooth creates a bottleneck and will slow down your Internet connectivity (over WiFi).

Doc, you're absolutely right.  It does differ from phone to phone, I just posted that video for reference, who knows maybe it will work for him on the Family Edition.

I'm a bit confused by your comment regarding the bottleneck?  Can you explain that some?

I've used this method on different Android tablets (like Archos 101), connected via bluetooth to a Blackberry on AT&T and it worked without any problems.  Definitely need to know all te APN settings though!

@armpower

Are you attempting to tether somewhere where there isn't wifi connectivity?

@bigach The bottle-neck will be in the radio transfer rate over BT, which as the FE is limited BT 2.0 (I think, def not 3.0) the fastest it'll run is 2.1mbps, whereas your WiFi 802.11g (not sure whether a WiFi hot spot on Android phones actually uses b, g, or n) would be 54mbps.

@bigach,

It looks like dicko1975 already replied with the bottleneck details. If you check the true throughput (such as using the app speedtest.net) on the Xoom, you will see a cap around ~2.1mbps when using Bluetooth versus much higher throughput via WiFi (depending on the connection). In addition, the Xoom's BT radio will slow down even further (or can become unreliable) if you are using a BT keyboard, mouse, headphones or speakers at the same time.
