List of Issues with 3.1

2011-08-17, 10:57 AM

I would like to compile a list of issues with 3.1, I will update the list based on your posts:

1- Battery life: Short battery life compared to 3.01.

2- WiFi connection issues: - Trouble reconnecting after device 'wake-up'

                                               - Trouble reconnecting when switching between WiFi and 3G

3- USB connection to other devices: Most devices including cameras cannot connect to Xoom.

4- Emails stuck in outbox when option to include original email is on.

5- Browser issues:

                             - sudden closes

                             - browser becomes unresponsive when moultiple tabs are used and closes suddenly

6- Copy/Paste: Sometimes does not work when copying address from address bar.

7- 3G connection issues: Many people have reported 3G connection issues and failure to connect despite hard reset.

8- 3G and Wifi reconnection issues: Xoom fails to reconnect after 'waking up', the wifi needs to be switched off and back on, or switched on, for Xoom to reconnect

I am having issues with a SD Card.  I have had several lockups when trying to move files onto the card.  I will be investigating further.

I've not had any of the mentioned in list except for battery and the occasionally forced closure of browser. So i'm not sure it's a problem with 3.1 patch, not tested the usb problem though.

But i do agree the battery life of 3.1 has gone down so much, anyone done any benchmark tests for the battery to see how long it lasts now compared to 3.0.1?

I've done a factory reset a week ago , and I must say, all the problems that I experienced with Xoom has now gone. But there is a problem appeared after the factory reset which is the synchronization of browser bookmarks. I can't synchronize the bookmarks, aside from that, the Xoom is now brilliant.

Re: List of Issues with 3.1

Hi all,

since the update of my Xoom to 3.1 yesterday afternoon, i also noticed a higher battery drain than with 3.01. About 10% capacity decrease over night. Normaly it was 2% or so. Today morning i disabled the notification of open networks.

I have a little tool called "OSMonitor" installed, where i can take a look at the OS messages (think it's some kind of dmesg). There where some worrying entries, which maybe are a hint to the higher battery drain with 3.1:

08/27/2011 08:04:21 [WARNING]

suspend_set_state: No configuration for max8649

08/27/2011 08:04:21 [ERROR]

pm_op(): platform_pm_suspend+0x0/0x54 returns -16

08/27/2011 08:04:21 [ERROR]

PM: Device alarm failed to suspend: error -16

08/27/2011 08:04:21 [ERROR]

PM: Some devices failed to suspend

I've read about doing a factory reset to maybe overcome such problems. But as far as i saw, a factory reset will wipe out all my installed applications and settings. When i want to do such a reset, what is the best way to backup my applications? Will the market remember all the apps i bought?

Another thing i notices was the blinking notification LED, although there was no mail in my Google inbox. Couldn't find a reason for the LED to blink, so i rebooted the Xoom and the blinking has gone.

So:

- High battery drain confirmed

- New: strange notification LED behaviour, blinks for unknowable reason

Cheers, Thorsten
