Re: Google Talk Microphone Problem

Google talk has fairly agressive echo cancelation.   Only time have had this problem occur is either i have my volume turned up or the person on the other side had volume turned up to loud.   If the microphone on either side picks up the audio from the party on the other end {feedback} if mutes the audio.   which is why folks have found success with plugging in headphones as it keeps Xoom mic from hearing audio from other side on the coversation.   if people are have problems i would suggest trying to have both parties turn their volume down on their xoom/computers and see if problem resolves itself.

i have the same problem. Gtalk on a notebook. Xoom on the other end. both connected to wifi fiber optic. min 1megabit up.

1. the other end cannot hear me. my voice breaks up,

2. my volume is maxed out. if i put it down one notch, i can barely hear the other sde.

3. other sides voice and video are great on the xoom.

4. my video is normal to the other side.

if i test other ends gtalk on notebook with my notebiik.... flawless.

so i have to say my xoom doesnt work well with gtalk. this is the main reason i gott this xoom.

Same problem with two Xooms doing video chat where it seems like voice is half duplex. Today I'll try using a bluetooth headset on my end and doing just voice rather than video chat.

I'll add to the list. Same issues with the dropping audio. Xoom to laptop in this case. I hear and see them fine at all times on the Xoom. They see me fine at all times but half my audio drops on their end.

It happens with a headset plugged so it isn't an issue with noise cancellation as far as I can tell. If either one of us switches to a PC, no problems.

I have this issue as well using GTalk. The other end is on a laptop webcam and I'm on my wifi xoom. The other end reports that they can not hear me AT ALL (never mind intermitenly). I tried cycling the "mute" function and an intermitent voice on the other end seems to come back.

It seems this may be a GTalk bug as I don't have this issue when using GTalk via my netbook on the same wireless network here and the same setup on the other end.

Yet another bug to be worked out.

Seems like nothing works for me on the Xoom.

Matt, can you perhaps start a consolidated review page for the various video chat apps?

I'll start listing what I know, so please correct, update and add.

GTalk - flat out sucks for me. I tried to video chat with my daughter on her laptop. But the audio problems (reported in this forum) mean she can't hear me, or if I turn my volume down far enough she can hear me, but I can't hear her.

Fring - video is inverted. Only mobile to mobile.

Tango - limited devices, only mobile to mobile. Some devices invert video.

Qik - doesn't work on Xoom

Skype - doesn't work on Xoom

Yahoo Messenger - although it's shown on AppBrain, the app can't be found in the Marketplace.

Is there anything that works?

Re: Google Talk Microphone Problem

I just started a thread yesterday to see if v3.1 cleared up the problems with Google Talk. Did both Xooms have the 3.1 update? I haven't tried it with the new version yet.

For me (v3.01) Gtalk Xoom to Xoom works, but the video quality isn't too good and the sound cuts out even with a headset on. If one of us uses a laptop, it works well, except the Xoom camera still isn't good but the laptop camera works well. No problem with sound on the Xoom or laptop.

Not sure if your question was addressed to me, but the Xoom has 3.1.  I can hear my daughter from her laptop, but she could not hear me until I turned the Xoom volume way down. Then she could hear choppy audio from me, and I could not hear her at all.  Both Xoom and laptop are on WiFi with very good speeds up/down.
