Re: How do I change OS language to english?

To unlock your device, get it into fastboot mode. Assuming you have the Android SDK installed and working on your PC and are familiar with the use of the fastboot command.

Turn off your XOOM.

Turn on your XOOM.

After a second or so, when the red M appears, press volume up.

On the top left of the screen a text should appear "Starting Fastboot Protocol support"

Connect the XOOM to your PC with the USB cable.

open a command shell in windows and check if the XOOM shows up by entering "fastboot devices"

if a device number is shown, you're ready to go.

enter "fastboot oem unlock".

read the disclaimer on the XOOM about voiding warranty etc... and accept.

voila.. your XOOM is now unlocked and ready to flash..

continue with the instructions here:

Re: How do I change OS language to english?

Thanks

One, hopefully, final question. The instruction on the moto.ly page only

see to tell me how to 're-lock' the device. To unlock the unit do i only

follow the relock instructions up to the last command to relock?

Thanks again i'm a bit les flustrated now

Re: How do I change OS language to english?

Hmmm. Ok then it wasn't the last qusetion

What is the implication of leaving the unit un locked?

Bearing in mind that the unit was sold to me with out any mobile contract.

Re: How do I change OS language to english?

I've heard of problems when relocking after altering the stock firmware image in any way - especially the kernel. This could brick your device.

If you leave the stock image untouched and relock straight after flashing, you should be safe.
