XPRT software update - should I do it?

2012-04-06, 23:32 PM

What's the latest advice on software updates for the XPRT?

Should I let my brand new XPRT (and my wife's new XPRT) update?

Will it update to the current 4.1.1.10 after is finishes 4.1.15.en.us?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome! Cool

Lucky for you, the XPRT has been out since the summer of 2011.  All the big issues have been addressed and the XPRT threads are very quiet now.  This is quite normal as it takes about 3-6 months to smooth out any wrinkles that come with new devices.

4.1.110 is stable.  I have not heard anything otherwise.

If in doubt, update one device and wait a couple of days before you do the other?

I would also be sure to start fresh and use good smartphone practices:

  • format the SD card using the XPRT

  • import your contacts from your Google account (put your contacts into your Google account and then sync to the XPRT)

  • stick to only reputable apps from Google Play (lots of downloads, at least a 4.0 rating)

  • install only one app per day (you are watching for instabilities)

  • keep your cache clear (I like App Cache Cleaner by InfoLife--you can set it to clear your cache automatically every hour)

  • power down once a day for 3+ minutes

Hope this helps.

Hi,

It does help!  Thanks for the speedy reply.  There are those rumblings that I read about 4.1.1.10 and wifi and things so I thought I'd check.

The fact that the XPRT is an older device is one of the reasons I chose it for us.  I like to know that things have had time to get ironed out.

Thanks for the smartphone practices as we are new to them and though they are common sense, it helps to be reminded.

Thanks!

Do one device and test/observe.  If all goes smoothly, do the second a few days later.

Hi,

I've done my phone.  It went successfully to 4.1.15 then immediately wanted to download 4.1.1.10, which is exactly what I expected.  I'm now on 4.1.1.10 and everything seems to be fine so far, including my wifi access.  I'll do my wife's if this keeps working.

Thanks again!

You are welcome.

Perhaps use your device for a day or two before updating your wife's device.  It takes that long to actually put your phone thru its paces (doing the things you would typically do, going to the locations you would typically goto, etc)....

I have the XPRT and loved it until the lady at the Sprint store "updated" it for me.  I wish she hadn't done it.  Could you please tell me what the original software was (numbers and such)  and if there is any way to return it to the original?  Thanks in advance.

There is no path backwards that I am aware of....there may be means of doing so which would require modifying your device, but we aren't allowed to discuss those methods here in the Motorola Forum.

What it is that you don't like about the updated device?

Thank you for your help.  I don't care for the unattractive icons and the way the navigation works from the main page.  Also, contacts and txts are almost black and white.  It seems almost sterile.  Do you know what the original operating system was that the phone came with?  Or what the original software was called?

Thanks,
